Especially in the middle of the night? I struggle to stay awake so tend to look at my phone and then feel guilty about the phone being near the baby. Need to get a little light for my kindle I think!

I am definitely going to invest in a Kindle light for next time (DC2 due in March)! Although this time round I think I will be more confident about lying down to feed/ co-sleeping so hopefully will be asleep!!

Day - read
night - sleep

My Kindle was a Godsend for breastfeeding - paperbacks were no good as I needed both hands, drove me mad not being able to read. Amazon should use that in their advertising, that they are ideal for breastfeeding Mothers because you can click with one hand!

Mainly phone when he was small (he was born at the Draw Something peak) then sleep at night when he was older or TV/reading if it was daytime.

Used to look at my phone, MN, watch telly, eat, drink....now he's a bit older I can do literally nothing while feeding. If I talk or sneeze that's it, DS is off...

Yes - harder to BF while doing something during the day now he's older, but at night, my iPhone (with Kindle app, Bejewelled, MN, Daily Mail website, BBC News app) is a godsend. I reckon if the NHS gave those out they'd improve breastfeeding rates. No idea how women BFed before the smartphone, I really don't.

At night I co sleep so I go back to sleep while feeding!

Oh god, do they get difficult to feed as they get older? To be honest I find it difficult already. DS fed for 3 lots of 45 mins today and whinged the entire time in between

Not difficult in a bad way :) They get more distractable as they get bigger so they come off and look around or if you are holding a phone or kindle they try to grab it and have a look but the flip side is that by then you know what you are doing, you can latch well and easily and they are bigger and better at feeding so feeds are shorter and they get what they need in the short times they can be persuaded to feed for!

DS2 is only 4 weeks so feeds are prolonged enough to require entertainment - usually internet on phone or Kindle. Seem to remember once DS1 got efficient enough at night I'd just pop him on and he'd be done in a few minutes.

I used to go on my laptop.

In the middle of the night though I just co-slept and then I didn't have to worry about falling asleep :)

Watch TV or go on smartphone during day. Latch him on and fall asleep during night. May change once we're able to get him to sleep in crib/cot but hopefully he'll be sleeping through by then! He's only woken once or twice a night since birth, my little angel. Had to have one like him after having 4 others who kept us awake lol.

Mayim get the kindle app on your phone - its backlit so you can read easily in the dark and you can set it to black background with white text so it's not distractingly bright.

Then set phone to airplane mode - no worries about nasty phone signal radiation and all the advantages of the kindle.

Kindle. I have read more books this year than ever before. I just have a low-watt bulb in my bedside light and read for night feeds to.

Sometimes I pretend I am still feeding so I can sit a little longer and finish my chapter/ demand tea top-up.

I also MN a lot.

THANK YOU!! I had no idea there is a Kindle app! This is going to revolutionise my night feeds...

I made great use of my DSi until DS got grabby, a bit short of smart phones and Kindles chezGreige.

However, I loved it when he was cluster feeding - loads of great tv,
including stuff with subtitles and I even got to crochet DD a hat!

I agree with poster above who says what did mothers do before smart phones! I'm a late adopter of technology, only got my smart phone a few months ago (while pregnant in fact) but it has been fabulous, especially for night feeds. I read blogs on Google Reader, Mumsnet, Cracked.com articles (via its app), Twitter. Off to find the Kindle app now!

Greige HTF did you BF and crochet or use a DS? Do you have a third arm?

The kindle app is A-MAY-ZING - it syncs up with your kindle and any other kindle apps on an iPad or something so your always at exactly the right page.

I luffs it.

Read and mn on iPod during the day. Kindle app is fab. I've never even bought a book on it as there are thousands for free.

Night; Cosleep so just fall back to sleep.

Watch TV with headphones in on my iphone: free apps on iPhone, tvcarchup, iplayer, 4od, itvplayer, 5od, iBooks, guardian app. Then if I'm shattered as I'm not great at co sleeping I set my alarm on my iPhone for 20mins swap sides then put DS2 back. Or catchup on mnet Smile
