Infant feeding

Why is my 16 month old feeding all the time?

He was a very frequent feeder when he was tiny, but has been going a whole morning or afternoon without a feed for months. He was also having very short feeds. Now he wants to feed at least once an hour and is feeding for ages! He doesn't seem ill. He only has his back molars left to get through and I can't feel anything. This has been going on for about a week now.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

It will pass, my DS did this on and off. He might be needing it just for a bit of comfort Smile

Oh wow, I just turned to this topic to write a post I was going to call "15 months and feeding all the time - is this normal?" and there was yours, beating me to it. DD is the same, we had got down to one or two feeds a day over the last month or two, but now she's ramped it up again to about every 2 hours in the day and maybe even more often at night... Are you still feeding at night too? I always end up sleeping in with her and feed without fully waking up, so I'm sure she's having about 4-6 feeds a night. Sorry to hijack your thread Maynie but I'm feeling end-of-tetherish about it all and just wanting to cut down now. Are you feeling the same or are you ok with it? Is your LO eating food as well? I struggling to get her to eat much in the day.

Ha, Biscuit, it sounds very similar. He is also feeding a lot during the night. I think he's cut down a bit on food, though I'm not really sure. He's big and heavy, so I always figure it doesn't matter too much how much he eats!

It could be comfort, or a growth spurt (please not another growth spirt, he's already 99.6 centile for height). I'm just letting him have as much as he wants and assuming it will pass...

I've got the same thing going on with ds 17 months. Was only having bedtime and during the night feeds until about 3 weeks ago and is now asking in the day again! I was thinking growth spurt or teething, hoping it will pass though! Smile
