12 wk old STTN - will it cause supply issues?(10 Posts)
Firstly I realize how lucky I am but i'm starting to doubt my feeding ability/supply and would like some advice pls:
LO almost 13 wks and EBF. No feeding issues to date. Born on 50th percentile and has stayed there with weight gain. Always been an efficient eater. Alert, happy, lots of nappy action.
Not sick but for the last 2 nights she has gone 6.30pm until 4am between feeds and I've kinda dream fed her then because I was getting engorged. For the last 3 weeks shes gone 6.30pm until 2am, then 5.30am. Feeds every 2-3 hrs in the day but often only for 7-8 mins (sometimes less). She does not fall asleep feeding in the day. Both me and DP are v tall.
- Should I just enjoy the sleep or is this going to affect supply? I have been told it will
- also told 8 feeds per day is a 'minimum' even though I feed on demand and offer often
- weight seems fine but should she be bigger ie. not feeding long/often enough
- is it safe for her to sleep that long?
Sorry if sounds ridiculous, just v confused. Surely she'd wake if she was hungry? Weigh clinic at end of week, just don't want to get freaked all the time and keep weighing.
Sorry for long post and TIA.
Wow, so you were feeding almost every hour during the day to 'catch up'. I just don't know what to do as she chuggs it down when hungry but won't have any of it if not so not sure that will work for us.
Did you get engorged at night or express?
Such conflicting advice
I would say take the sleep! You will feel engorged to begin with but that will settle down. Keep getting your baby's weight checked if you are worried about dropping quantity. Some babies are just efficient feeders. Probably at 4 months you'll get a big growth spurt, feeding round the clock and sleep regression and you'll wish you'd made the most of this month's sleep!
Now if you can just tell me how to get my baby to go sleep before 10pm I'd be grateful (still feeding now).
Sorry, I don't know what sttn means so if its a special situation ignore my advice!
DD tracked between 25th and 50th centiles and was sleeping 8 or 9 hours at 3 months old. She started waking twice a night for feeds at 4 months! Then wanted night feeds till finally dropping them at 1 year.
I wish ds (currently 19 weeks and 98th centile) would go just 4 hours between feeds at night [bleary eyed emoticon]. Or sleep in his cot. 'Twould be nice.
Thanks ladies. It was an NCT BF counsellor who said to express/dream feed to protect supply after midnight. But then I think how does anyone BFing manage longer term if their LO sleeps though. Suspect will be short lived anyway or
I think by 13 weeks your supply is established and fairly flexible. It's early on that you need to worry about sleeping through, like, before 6 weeks. Hope everything continues so good for you .
