About 2 months ago I noticed a small red patch under one nipple, it got bigger over the course of a few days and after a week I went to the doctor as it wasnt going on its own. It is NOT painful, feeds are not painful it doesnt seem to have any effect other than a patch of very dry crakced and sore looking skin around one nipple (it extneds half way around the nipple).

The doctor said it was a bacterial infection and gave me cream (fucidin) which i used. It made no difference at all so i went back and saw a different doctor who said it isnt that it is thrush. I now have daktarin for me and drops for the baby. I have used it for 2 days and it seems redder than ever!. I have been told by the doctor that i should stop feeding the baby out of that side for a few days to allow it to heal. The first day i didnt because havent been able to get her to take a bottle but today i have pumped from that side and so have not fed her directly for the day.

Does anyone have any advice at all? as I say it isn't painful but I would like it to get better it just distrurbs me being there and I worry it will suddenly get worse.

mmm, doesnt sound like the thrush i had. Ive had it and its EXTREMELY painful like hot knives if its in the nipple/ducts.
If it is thrush, I do know that symptoms can get worse before they get better and it can take a long time to get rid of...

are there any white spots in your babys mouth that dont wipe away?
is baby feeding contently or pulling on and off?
are your nipple shiny/flaky/itchy? (all the above signs of thrush but can have thrush and not necessarily have these symptoms).

have you put anything on your nips thats different or changed washing powder or got eczema?

just a few ideas..

anyone else?
