Infant feeding

Reassurance needed on feeding in a 16 week old...

Just tell me this is normal because I'm starting to get worried I don't produce enough milk or something!

My DD feeds every 2 hours day and night and always has done apart from a couple of weeks where she went to 1 or 2 hourly at night, and 3 or 4 hourly during the day.

She has NEVER gone more than 3 hours between feeds at night, that being the first stretch of sleep only, and feeds can take up to half an hour.

WHEN will I get more sleep? PLEASE>>>>>>>>>>>>? Surely at some point by now she should have started sleeping a bit more?

We do cosleep, but she can't latch on properly lying down - she just gets frustrated....

I could have wrote this post about my DD 6 months ago, I couldn't believe that at 4 months she didn't ever sleep longer than a 2 hour stretch. However I am happy to say that when DD was about 5 months she suddenly started sleeping much better and will now do a 5 hour stretch, have a feed and then go back to sleep for another 4/5 hours and it is bliss. I didn't do anything different when this started happening, I just followed DD's lead so hopefully your LO will get the idea soon x

Anyone else have some light at the end of the tunnel for me?

DD got a bit better at 3 months and would manage 5 hours stretches, but we've gone backwards now for a couple of weeks (now 19 weeks). Apparently there is a growth spurt in the 4th month that can lead to sleep regression...

Hang in there, I am sure it will get better. As she grows she may find it easier to latch on lying down as well, this is the only thing that keeps me sane!

Mine happened at 11wk. Same as others I didn't do anything to make it happen. Except the putting her awake in the cot. But I was lucky she likes her cot. When they first started getting a longer sleep stretch it is usually the first part of the night. I used to get really frustrated why DD will go from 7 to 12 or 1 then wake every 2-3 hours. But that also passed and one day she went from 7 to something like 4-5am!

Hmm but she's older than 3 months! And she also goes in her bedside cot awake and self settles really well, and is put back awake after every feed and goes back to sleep.... she just insists that she really needs feeding every 2 hours day and night!
