Expressing getting a vacuum

I've just bought avent manual pump, cheap and cheerful! Can't seem to get a decent vacuum. Any ideas? Dd is five months and tried to express when she was in bed last night and only got about a wee bit after an hour.

The pump may be faulty, Scary. Take it back to the shop. You will not get anything except drops without a vacuum - 'tis the physics of it :)
