Best Electric pump

Hi all,

I am planning ahead here and thinking about the best pump to get when i want to start expressing. DC1 is due in January and I am wondering if i am planning ahead too much (!) or just being prepared.

I am very much hoping to breast feed but would like OH to get involved as much as possible after the first few weeks and thought expressing and letting him do one feed in the night might be an option later on. We also have a few social activities planned from a couple of months in so i know i will need to have mastered expressing for that.

Can anyone advise on the best pump out there? Cost i not too much of an issue but i was also wondering if double pumps are a good bet or difficult?

Someone recommended the Medela range to me but i have no friends with babies yet so need the advice of Mumsnet pls!

Thanks :)

I express for when I'm at work using a double Ameda Lactaline which was recommended on here and I'm definitely impressed.

There's something with the Medela's not being closed system so not recommended unless you use a hospital grade one or something. Can't remember exactly.

I have a medela swing and it's fine. I really hate expressing though.

Hi,
I have the medela swing too and would highly recommend it. It got me through expressing for my now 3 year old when I went back to work when she was 6 months (bf her til she was 16 months; couldn't have done it without expressing).

I've now dragged it out again for my DD2, 15 weeks, and it's still in good working order. Spare parts can also be bought online.
