I posted a thread a while back about my conflict about keeping feeding DS and maybe stopping in case it was interfering with conceiving no2 (a wee bit broody, me Grin). see here We're now on month 11 ttc.

In the end, I decided not to feed DS first thing in the morning, as this is quite close to the period when prolactin levels are highest. (seemed logical after googling). I started this last Monday.

I may not really have thought it through that well as it was his only 'proper' fed of the day and he now seems to be kind of losing interest. Even at naptime when he quite liked a sleepy feed he has about 5 sucks each side then goes to sleep.

I also failed to consider that I'd have to stop the occasional night feeds too, as it would make not doing it in the morning a bit pointless - he chose this week to wake up twice in a row after sleeping fine for ages of course. I did settle him ok with just a drink of water and cuddles for ages, but it felt kind of wrong not to offer him the comfort, so I have been doubting myself a bit.

I am also a bit paranoid about getting sore boobs with the lack of much feeding at all, they have been a bit achy and heavy off and on.

In your experience will he probably just bother less and less, or is there a chance he'll decide he likes it again? He does still ask for mummy milk a bit, but sometimes loses interest by the time I get a 'milk' out for him!

I'm just a bit guilty at making the decision for him, although maybe I should just see what happens, as he isn't miserable and begging for a feed or anything.

Thanks in advance if you followed that ramble Blush, any tips on managing this welcome.

I have no tips, just didn't want to read and run. Sounds like a real dilemma.

have you tried ovulation sticks to see if you actually need to do this?
Have you had a period yet?

yeah, periods been back and fairly regular for well over a year. have used ov sticks a few times and they do seem to indicate ov. also charting which shows clear temp rise.

hence me wondering if I'm one of the people I've heard of who just can't get pg while feeding at all!

from what i Googled implantation can be affected by proactin levels, and some people have higher levels or summat.

i guess I'm just impatient about ttc, although also enjoying DS lots as he seems to be at a very cool age. very busy and a bit like a small cheeky parrot...I'm watching what i say a bit more. Grin

thanks for replies :)

I'm guessing my milk must be salty weaning milk now, it even looks a different colour. (had a wee squeeze to check it was still coming out!)

this would maybe explain why DS will latch on ok, but seems to stop when milk comes out.

it's normal to feel a bit emotionally wobbly about bf ending, right? :(

I think it seems like a mutual decision rather than forced weaning.
You have done a grand job BF for 2 years Smile

Yes, ime it's very normal to feel sad, but as you say, your ds is at a very cool age and you have so much to look forward to.

Good luck with ttc. It took me 15 months with dd, and iirc 12 months isnt far from the average time it takes to conceive.

thanks. :) :)

we still have a nice cuddle in his room when he gets up in the morning, although i now have to read lots of books instead of dozing while he feeds!

he does seem happy and not upset by it at all which i am glad about.

can't wait to do it all again with another one!

Erm, i seem to have got a slight BFP.

not sure if cutting out the night/early morning feeds did help or not, but it's happened. Shock

Only 10DPO so early days yet (was tempted into early testing and got faint lines yesterday) but still walking about a bit dazed! :)

DS did stop feeding for a day or so, but is still asking now and then so I am letting him have a go at latching on. He almost seems to have forgottes how to do it already. Confused

hope i don't sound like a crazy stalker, but you were one of the first people i 'met' on here when our dc were full of snot at a few weeks old.

nearly 2 years on i love this place! can't believe how old your DS is when you mention him.

not too bad thansk, she has been a bit under the weather but is getting better. How's your DS adapting to no feeding - is he bothered or just trying his luck>
Who have yuo told so far? Ar are MNers the only ones?

he doesn't seem too bothered, he sometimes asks then spots a book he wants me to read instead! he will also happily just lie and cuddle in with his blanket, so i guess he just likes to be close. I've had to mention twice this week that teeth are not actually required to get milk out though... ouch!

glad your DD is feeling better, we're just getting rid of yet more snot.

i have a RL friend at work who i talk about everything inc ttc to, so she knows. i think we told our family at about 6 weeks last time as we couldn't wait any longer! not sure this time.

i do have the slight problem of a huge work do next month, which could be a bit interesting. not sure if i can convince them all I've gone off the Wine :)
