Best contraceptive pill to take whilst bf?

Thinking of taking oral contraception for a few months. DD is now 6mo so will still hopefully be bf for another year or so. I don't want to take anything that will interfere with bf, is there anything I can use safely? Thanks Smile

Mini pill is generally considered ok - like cerazette. Combined pill likely to affect your milk much more, as in reducing supply.

I was on combined pill pre babies - I have tried mini pill in the past and don't get on with it so I went for a Mirena as that is ok with BF.

If you are planning another one soonish then a pill or condoms may be the most suitable.

In between babies I took the mini pill cerazette, which worked well and they only negative side effect I had was light iregular bleeding. No effect on my milk.

This time as we aren't planning any more I've had a Mirena coil fitted, again some light bleeding and a bit of mood swings which seem to be seataling down now. No noticed effect on my milk and I had it fitted at about 4months.

I also took Cerazette, didn't experience any side effects. I breastfed DS for 13 months, and didn't get my periods back until 2 months after I stopped. Switched back to my usual pill after that. No problems at all with Cerazette though.

Thanks for the replies. I will try the cerazette and see how we get on Smile

I've taken Femulen mini pills (etyodiol diacetate) for the last 10 years - perpetually BF DD2.
Lovely light periods, slight cervical erosion, used to be a problem for cervical smears, but they have changed them.
I'm 43 and have no intention of changing since it doesn't have the clotting risk of the combined pill.
You simply have to remember to take it at the same time everyday.

Startail - the best thing about cerazette though is that's it's a mini pill that has a 12hour taking window like the combined pill so it doen't matter as much about haveing to take it at the exact same time everyday. I think I would have ended up preagnat sooner if I'd been on a standard mini pill, as I'm quit useless at remebering things.

I took cerazette after dc3 and I got pregnant with dc4.
How about the implant?

Dh is having a vasectomy today, but I know it takes 14weeks min. to get the 'all clear'. I also have a latex allergy! So maybe cerazette with a latex free condom for a temporary mesure!

That sounds brilliant, being able to remember in the morning would be useful.

I've been on Cerazette for a year now (since my 6 week check) and have had no problems, still happily BFing and no bleeding since the first couple of weeks on it. I just wondered whether any other BFers on Cerazette can advise about periods? I'm kind of assuming that I'm not getting periods because of the Cerazette rather than the BFing, but not totally sure.

Woodlands - I BF for just over a year and was on Cerazette for a few months longer than that. I didn't have a period at all during that time - I guess that the Cerazette was the main reason for that as I was on that a bit longer than I was BFing, IYSWIM. My periods returns soon after stopping the pill, although I can't exactly remember how long. HTH
