Just starting BLW with carrots. Are they supposed to come out the other end undigested (ie totally recognisable pieces)? Or does this mean baby's digestive system isn't ready yet (she's 6 months)?

Mine always had this too, it reduces gradually. Is normal and a handy way of seeing if / what they've managed to swallow.

As in two DC, both BLW'd from 6 months...

Totally normal. Raisins will come out as little reconstituted grapes and I still shudder when I remember the first time DD had blueberries.

Oh and if/when you give fish for the first time be prepared for some shocking green poos.

Yup completely normal. I also had the Blueberry Nappy Shock!

yay! thanks for the blueberry warning - don't want my fluffy nappies turning blue!

Totally normal. I second the dried fruit and blueberry warnings too...

Nothing to worry about but you can give her some baby stomach ease tea which will help her to digest. It's calming too...VERY helpful in the evenings..

If all this food is coming out the other end, what are they actually digesting? confused

Or is it a case of the gut taking a few weeks to get used to new functions?

HettyAmaretti Wed 29-Jun-11 13:51:37

Yes, as I understand it, BLW gives the child the chance to slowly increase the amount they take i and because it's chunks the gut has the opportunity to slowly adapt to digesting stuff other than milk.

Banana comes out as little black strands.

I still recognise lots of foods in DS's poo, and he's 2.

NotOutingMyselfToday Wed 29-Jun-11 14:27:06

Yes, and undigested banana stains like hell. Black bits all over evryrhing.

gallicgirl Wed 29-Jun-11 16:05:00

Makes mental note not to feed banana to DD. Fecking stuff stinks anyway so fat chance of that happening.

The BLW forum is always useful!
