Chicken pox and breastfeeding? DS2 has 3 spots...

DD (nearly 3) had chicken pox last week. She kept kissing DS2 (9 months) so the likelihood of him getting it was high.

This week he has come out in spots. By spots I mean 3. On wednesday he developed 2 spots which were clearly chicken pox and yesterday he got one more. Nothing since and one of those has completely disappeared. He is absolutely fine in himself.

He still has around 5 breastfeeds a day, more on days he is not in nursery. Can breastfeeding reduce the severity of chicken pox? When DS1 had it (at 14 months) he was still breastfed but only once, maybe twice at most a day. Both him and DD came out in spots rapidly - 48 hours on they were covered.

Guess it is a case of waiting and seeing but any experience?

DD3 was three weeks old when she got, so still EBF.

Of the three, she definitely had it "least bad". She still has a scar on her nose though, because I thought she had immunity through me, so wiped the spot off. Doh. It is a while ago now, but I also think she as least poorly.

I think often when they get it as babies they get it very mildly - but also don't necessarily become immune and can catch it again later.

He still doesnt have any more. He is absolutely fine too.

I am wondering whether this will be it but then he wont be immune

Hmm...

DD had them at 10 weeks but was mix fed at the time, mostly bm. She was covered on her face but hardly anywhere else, DS ( who had them 2 weeks earlier - incubation is up to 3 weeks) had them everywhere but his face. There's still time if it's only a week since your DS had them.

No, sorry, I meant DD went down with them over 2 weeks ago - she is all better now so DS2 got them 2 weeks after her.

He now only has two spots...one has disappeared Confused Grin
