Infant feeding

is this normal hunger when bfing?

I feel constantly hungry all the time non stop. At the end of a meal I still feel like there's a big gap that I can't seem to fill (and I am eating big portions). I also often have a feeling like I'm lacking something or never quite satisfied. I know bfing can make you hungry so just wondering if this much is normal or if it might be that I could be lacking in something as I have a restrictive diet Hmm . I am eating alot btw - it's not like I'm depriving myself, if anything, I feel like I eat way too much and wish I didn't feel so incredibly hungry so I could eat less (I do try eating less btw but I just get terribly low blood sugar feeling). Oh, and I have 3 mo DD Grin

My DD is three weeks and last few weeks I'm exactly the same the last few days, so much for BF helping me loose baby weight.

I remember the nights getting the 3am munchines. Used to wake my partner up rustling cereal bar packets!

Completely normal. I could eat a full meal and find that I was hungry again only 45 minutes afterwards. Luckily my sister warned me about this before I gave birth so I was spared the alarm Shock

greenone I get the 3am munchies every night too Shock Grin - I have to have a drawer of snacks in my bed side table at the ready Hmm .

So - how exactly can you get through bfing without putting on weight feeling this ravenous?

yes! My mw actally told me to make sure I had snacks at the bedside as I was bound to wake up starving in the night Grin

reastie don't forget, bm uses up c500 calories a day. I have eaten like it's going out of fashion this last 9m because of bfing and I'm still back in my pre-pg clothes.

Yes, normal. I am even worse now I'm tandem feeding, I ate the in-laws out of house and home when we went to stay Grin Just try and stick to healthy stuff and chocolate and monitor your weight if you're worried. But if you're hungry then it means you need the calories! Don't forget to keep hydrated too.

hunger def normal and its only now baby is 9mths and weaned him down to 3 feeds a day I have started to feel less hungry but still eats loads and I weigh less than I did before pregnant - prob due to walking lots too.

cake is def vital for breastfeeding mums - esp when marks and spencers have their cakes on 2 for £3 its must to buy them yum yum choc fudge cake!!! (oh and eating 1/2 a famil size trifle is normal too)

gosh, well, sort of glad this is normal but Shock at no one warning me. I actually wonder if completely hormonal this week as am now not sleeping properly and feeling really queasy with tiredness/low blood sug and generally a hormone machine - I assume this is all normal Hmm

DS is 6mo, has taken to being weaned really well so is bfing much less - however I am still a ravenous beast.

Bizarrely, I was down to pre-pregnancy weight when DS was 3mo, then I developed a major cake habit and have put 1/2 stone back on Shock

DP made my day yesterday when I was moaning about this and he said ''you're feeding our baby, don't let anyone tell you that you need to lose weight'' Smile

Yes! I ate everything I could get hold of for the first few months - particularly the 4 month growth spurt. On DS's 1st birthday I was 20lb lighter than my booking in appointment weight (although, DS and I together were pretty close to it!) so he must have ended up with all the cake.

Hello, I didn't know you'd namechanged. Glad things are still going well! Keep eating plenty of cake healthy food, I get a sudden drop in blood sugar as well if I don't keep eating.

Phew! DD1 is 4 days today and I swear I have eaten more in the last few days than I did in the previous month!

Some of it is the joy of being able to eat without getting heartburn. Am packing away about 5 meals a day plus at least 2 snacks overnight.

Currently attacking a plate of mash and gravy. Heaven.
