best way to wind baby?

can anyone advise me on the best way to wind my week-old baby? He's breast-fed, and sometimes finds latching on a bit tricky, so while we're getting the hang of it, he's taking in quite a bit of air at some feeds, which leaves him windy. I've tried sitting him on my knee and holding his chin in my hand, and putting him over my shoulder, but I find it really difficult to get a burp out of him. Then I eventually put him down because I think he's finished, and he ends up being sick! I asked the midwife, and she said the best way is what works for us, but so far nothing works for us!

Congratulations on your new baby!

We also had this with newborn ds - he was so darn floppy and delicate. My answer is just time I'm afraid. Some bf babies don't need much winding but ds did and we just kept trying. Once he got to about 6 wks and could hold his head up it was A LOT easier. I think the throat needs to be straight which is hard to achieve.

Don't worry about the odd bit of sick, it looks more than it actually is. Have you got a sling? That can be good to pop them into after a feed to help keep them upright so things move in the right direction.

my little one used to be like that, i tried infacol and it helped him burp easier. Maybe you should give it a go smile have you also tried having them over your shoulder and walking around and giving them like a little bounce that also could help. I hope this helps and you soon solve the problem, a baby that is hard to burp can be hard. good luck x
