Weird weighing clinic

Quick query, we went to the weighing/ health visitor / surestart clinic today (12 lb 12 oz :) at 7 1/2 weeks ) but I was a bit Confused I got asked to demonstrate my breast feeding. I didn't ( still using pillows to support her and she'd just fed before we got there) and they were pretty grumpy about it. Anyone else had this?

How bizarre! That is a good weight. What do they want to see....your special recipe?

How odd! What do they expect to be able to tell by watching you BF? Confused

Not sure. She's feeding ok and growing well so I can't see what the problem might be. Just thought I'd see if anyone else had had a similar request :)

Perhaps given your DDs fantastic weight gain, they were looking for tips on how it's done. Smile

Can't see why you'd need to demonstrate given there are no probs presumably.

??????

Weird.

LOL about the special recipe :)

Could it have been a badly worded prelude to asking if you would be happy to show other new mothers and pregnant ladies how you are doing it as your dd is obviously doing very well?

badger :) I like that as the answer!

Any 'special recipe' can only be down to high chocolate consumption

Maybe they didn't believe you were breastfeeding!

MUA I suppose it could be.
Still a bit odd tho, are they expecting to see all the bf mums 'in action' ?

See, this kind of idiocy is why I've never gone to weighing clinic.

I haven't been for three weeks and they rang this morning to check I was taking her today :(

What? Even that is pretty weird - it even says in the red book not to weight them more than once a month at most Hmm

I feel very lucky. DD was weighed at her 8 week check. I went to the clinic a month later about something else and the HV said "You don't want her weighed do you? She looks fine.". That was 3 weeks ago, and I've not seen hide nor hair of her since. But I know she's there if I've got a problem. Just the way I like it Grin

OP, go back next week and take biscuits and a magazine. Then you can make yourself comfy and demonstrate a real live feed in its entirety. Is it a busy clinic? Wink

haha stickers bloody good idea. If you do it Mibby I would pay good money to join you Smile

Does it MUA? Shes my first, Im still working out what im 'supposed' to do. Shan't bother going next week then :)

Stickers its usually pretty busy. If I go in a couple of weeks and do a whole feed there d'you think they'd make me a cuppa half way through? Her feeds are normally pretty long :)

At the back of the red book where the growth charts are - says "weighing your baby too often may cause unnecessary concern"

Babies 2 weeks - 6 months should be weighed no more than once a month. "Most children will not need to be weighed as often as this"

did you not ask why they wanted you to Mibby?

they sound a bit over-zealous. they rang to check you'd be taking her?

i'd have pointed out that it isn't compulsory and if you want to get her weighed you will. otherwise could they not ring again

ds2 and ds3 were weighed at their 6 week checks and then never again! i didn't even hear from an HV about it! lol

Report
ethelina · 07/01/2011 22:39

Yep, I've never bothered to get Boy weighed since the 6 week check. He's now nearly 17 weeks, but then he's always seemed healthy with lots of wet and dirty nappies and steady growth so I've never had reason to worry.
