Medela Swing Pump - keeps cutting out?! Any one know why?

Hi there,

I've just bought a Medela Swing Pump having heard great things about it, but it doesn't seem to be working properly. It starts off ok but cuts out about 3-5 minutes into the expression mode and then keeps on cutting out when I try to switch it back on again.

Has anyone else experienced this problem / found out why it happens? Or is the pump broken? I'm using it with batteries rather than via the mains.

Thanks in advance for any tips or solutions.

I had some problems with my Medela Mini Electric pump cutting out randomly. I got another one and it seemed to work better, although it did randomly stop at least once.

I think it was a battery issue - it didn't work in the mains but I think the socket wasn't working (it was at work) because it worked okay via the mains at home.

Sorry, that's not very helpful. blush

I've got one and have never had any problems with it at all - in fact I think it is amazing - it kept my son a bf baby when he just wouldn't latch on at all in the 1st weeks. However I do always plug mine into the mains so maybe they're not so good on battery power.

I had exactly this problem twice - first time I called Medela and it turned out that you aren't supposed to have batteries in it if it's plugged into the mains, it has to be one or the other. That fixed it for a while but it started cutting out again or just not switching on at all unless I had it on a flat surface and kept absolutely still. I called the people who sold it to me and they wanted me to send it off but I couldn't do without it for the two weeks they said it would take so I just have to push the connector to the power lead really firmly in the pump before I turn it on and it seems to be ok. TBH I think the design is awful if you can't keep the batteries in and that the service is rubbish for such an expensive product.
