Quick questions about expressing

  1. Is it normal for expressed milk to separate like cows milk (with a creamy layer on top) when stored in the fridge?

  1. Can I add to a refridgerated bottle throughout the day? So if I'm expressing after feeds and only getting a few ounces at a time, can I add them all together to make up a full 'meal'?

I'm new to this expressing lark. Advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

  1. Yes
  2. I would cool the milk in a separate bottle first rather than adding warm to cold, but it would be fine to combine them for a feed.

  1. Yes - swirl to remix, don't shake. (If you've already done so don't worry)
  2. Yes that's fine, but if you're doing it over more than one day I'd use the little breastmilk bags, just because otherwise all the milk has the shelf life of the first expressed batch if that makes sense.

This should keep you busy.

Biggest tips I have are

(i) babies only normally need 3-5oz bottles (and be watchful of overfeeding when giving bottles)

(ii) and there's some useful techniques for how to actually give the bottle. There's a section on the above link and also here
