Infant feeding

Growth spurt or demonic feeder?!

Over the past two days my dd has been in a feeding frenzy. She can't seem to get enough. Feeds are quite close together, 1.5-2.5 hours, and as we're mix feeding, I can see she's getting a lot of formula. She's 19 days old. She was small at birth, so she's catching up, and I knew to expect growth spurts as milk came in, at 10 days, and I know she should be feeding a lot, but this seems excessive, if there is such a thing.

I'm assuming I can't over feed her, and if she takes the food she's hungry. But is this a temporary growth spurt? I'm so new to all of this - just want to know how long it will continue as it makes her quite unsettled in between feeds and her poor digestive system can't quite keep up with her pace!

my dd2 (12 weeks) pretty much feeds every 2 hours and has donesince birth. she will go longer if out and about but sometimes needs feeding more too. For instance - i have fed her at 5.30am, 7am and just now again for a short while. She too has an 'active' digestive system, even now! I think its all within the realms of normality for a bf baby!

It is tiring though and your LO is soo tiny, i would just respond to her feeding needs if you can.I am no expert though so hopefully someone with more know how will come along soon!

Congratulations on your DD cambodia. I would be tempted to put her to the breast as much as possible. Unfortunately, it is possible to overfeed a ff baby but not a bf baby. Not sure on mix feeding but if you put her to the breast each time you will be increasing your supply. How much formula is she having and how often?

Have you spoken to a Bfing Counsellor about it? Also, many Mums find mixing with other Bfing Mums very useful, is there a Bfing Support Group you could go to?

Sorry I can't be of more use, hopefully someone with some more experience will be along shortly.

Is it really possible to overfeed a ff baby? Don't they just throw up / out what they don't want? I've never heard it's poss to overfeed

Could be wrong about that but I thought that one of the reasons they had introduced the new growth charts was to identify obese babies more quickly.

when both my babies had growth spurts, they fed almost continuously for two days (around I guess 48 hours or so) to build up milk supply, and DS in particular always seems to be having a growth spurt!
