Had a c section 10 days ago and although the wound has healed v well, i'm in a lot of pain and MW said today that i have an internal infection so she has ordered me a batch of antibiotics which I'll be picking up shortly. MW said I was fine to still breastfeed with it but that baby may get more windy but just wondering if anyone has any advice / experience on this?

Hi there, sorry to hear you have an infection. I didn't have one with my CS but I did with my VB and it was agony, so you have my sympathies!

TBH I took antibiotics and a LOT of Diclofenac/Voltarol anti-inflammatories with the first birth, BF was difficult but I think is was more from supply issues. Second time I was given IV antib's and again painkillers, and BF'ing was a dream. So you never know.

One thing I will say is you'll be more prone to breast thrush, so be extra clean, change pads after exery feed and get some good probiotics to take as well. Maybe even sprinkle some on you pads after feeds.

Hope you feel well soon and enjoy your baby.

Antibiotics and breastfeeding led to upset baby crying all night in pain, and no sleep for mummy. Check which antibiotics as some are better than others.

They will probably give baby the squits, but again check which ones.

there is a thread "Taken into hospital and my poor breastfed son" that has some proper advice on it. Can't do links am stupid sorry

Ooh good point about baby squits - if so then a thick layer of Sudocrem to stop nappy rash turning nasty.

I was on paracetamol, diclofenac and amoxycillin antibiotics after my CS. My wound infection was a surface skin one, so you may have different infection/antibiotics.

My DS was my 1st DC, so I had nothing to compare it to - his poos were remarkably liquid and explosive, but then they pretty much carried on that way after I'd finished the anti-b's, so I can't point to cause and effect... and in fact I had 2 subsequent courses of flucloxacillin for mastitis, and didn't see any change in DS then.

Good tip about nappy rash cream though. I ate plenty of probiotic yoghurt, although I'd do that for my sake if I was on anti-b's whenever.

FWIW, the infection cleared up v quickly with the anti-b's so hopefully yours will too.
