Someone explain Breast Milk production!!

I'm exclusively BF 6wk old & just curious as to how body controls/supplies milk. I had a look in a Gina Ford book (not following it at all...friend gave it to me when had my first child & I looked at it & put it back in cupboard) just wanted to know few things & just not sure what she's put is true!! So thought I'd ask the experts.
When I feed DD after she pulls off 1 side or seems to have had enough (normally on 15 - 20 mins or so) I wind her, have a little chat & then usually offer her 2nd side (sometimes this is 20mins after 1st). But Gina says only offer 2nd if 1st is empty....mine is never empty!!! She also implies that your boob doesn't refill till hind milk gone, which seems odd....i just assumed it just kept producing milk so any left in boob gets mixed in with new stuff!
Not too concerned about it just intrigued! DD has gained 3lb since birth so all is going well with way I'm doing it!!

Gina Ford knows very little indeed about bf, and what she writes in her books is wrong.

So sue me.

Thanks for the link fibernachi. Having read the info on Kellymom I think Gina Ford books should be put in the recycling bin to be turned into something more useful - that's just my personal opinion!

GF knows shag all about bf.

She can sue me too, 'cept I haven't got any money. I learned on day 1 of law school that there's no point suing someone if they have no dosh to give you.

Add in The Baby Whisperer too. Some of her stuff is ok but her feeding "advice" is downright a) wrong, b) crap c) dangerous.

The BW even discovered a new type of milk previously (and since) unknown to laboratories the world over - 'quencher milk'.

I have taken calls as a breastfeeding counsellor from mothers trying to follow BW from birth, and they are confused and upset because their baby has not read the same book.

At least GF does not suggest starting her regime at birth.

I remember on the baby whispered series she told one bf mum to empty the breast cos any milk left in them would turn into cottage cheese!! She also told her to eat protein snacks between meals to improve her milk quality..so there she was tucking into plates of turkey after lynch.

bubbakin - if you were after a book on this then the NCT book of breastfeeding is really good.

Agree with tiktok, GF book is wrong!
