Infant feeding

Feeding every 2 hours in the night, will this ever end?

My DS is now 4 months old and for the last week has gone from wanting feeding every 3 hours in the night (which I was finding hard), to every 2 hours. I'm worn out as I has a 3 year too. Will this end when I start to wean? Was thinking to start him on baby rice to help? I feel like a zombie. It's making me feel like I'll have to give up bf because I'm not sure how long I can cope with so little sleep, it's making me feel really down. I really wanted to bf for 6 months as a minimum. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm nervous about co-sleeping because I'm a deep sleeper but to help he is in my room. How often do you think I should feed in the daytime? At the moment he usually feeds every 3 hours. Thanks for your help.

My dd is 5 months and started around 4 months to wake every 2 hours. Now she stretches is out to every 3. I don't think baby rice will make a difference tbh and the guidelines recommend that babies who are exclusively bf don't go on solids to 6 months. I have a ds of 21 months and dd of 4.5 years so I sympathise...

Thanks I'll hold off on the baby rice and will try to increase the feeds late afternoon/early evening to see if it helps. Fingers crossed.

It'll be the 4 month sleep regression - their brains are really busy working on a huge developmental spurt which happens at around 19 weeks. There's often a growth spurt which goes with it.

There is a great book explaining it called The Wonder Weeks by two scientists who researched all the developmental spurts up to 13 months.

They say "Your baby may not settle down well at night now... She may want a night feeding again, or she may even demand to be fed several times a night."

The good news is that is passes on its own ? and isn?t a sign of babies needing to start solids either.

There?s useful information on the sleep regression here, here, here and here.

My DS just went back to waking less frequently again without me doing anything differently.

Good - it's really horrible at the time, but it does go away. (Until the 8/9 months regression that is. Wink)
