My DS is 7 weeks and has 6-7 oz from a bottle every night, sometimes a bit more.

A lot of babies don't ever take more than 2-3oz so don't stress if this happens.

During a 24hr period, they normally take 25oz. So if replacing a feed, it's about 1oz per hr since last feed. Sometimes babies take more than they need as they're used to comfort sucking (which on a bottle makes them swallow milk). For most people this isn't a problem, but if the bottle is at night and they have a lot and then sleep through, you may want to limit it to protect supply. It also means that if you struggle to express you can worry less.

Good morning, My 9 week son will take anywhere between 2oz and 5oz ebm last thing at night. We use a Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Bottle which has given us no trouble.

Ds2 took 3oz last week and needed feeding again 2.5hrs later. I let my mum try and went upstairs to express. He took it no problem at all and I then fed him again before bed :)

Ds1 ( although I'm not sure exactly how old but less than 12 weeks) took 8oz and when my mum tried to wind him in the middle screamed so much she just gave the bottle back. He had a bottle of ebm every day with his Childminder until 9 months and it remained 8oz, shows how breastmilk changes with your babies needs I guess!

I used avert bottles for both with no problems, started with size1 teats and never moved higher than 2 for ds1.

Thanks for the replies. Doesn't matter too much today as we are just trying out so I will ne around. I'd like dh to do a last or first feed at some point but dd sleeps for 7 hours at night so I'm loath to interfere with the last feed.

I have an avent pump & bottles though I also bought some tt closer to nature ones and will probably use those.

I don't want it to become a too regular thing at the moment as bfing is still a bit hit & miss wrt latching but I didn't want to miss my window for introducing a bottle.

DH usually feeds DD a bottle of expressed milk as a her first feed on a friday and saturday morning so that I can have a lay in.

We've always offered her 5oz but she usually won't drink all of it in one go. It will usually last her about 2-3 hours before the next feed. However at 8 weeks she still had a very irregular feeding pattern so sometimes she could go 3-4 hours on 5oz and sometimes less then 1 hour.

We use the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Bottle as well.
