Solid poos - does she need additional fluids?

Dd very nearly 6 mo has been having occasional bits of banana etc as we wanted to do blw. Yesterday she had some purée for the first time and surpurised us all by wolfing down a huge amount with gusto (straight after a bf!)

today's nappy was fully formed - again I was quite surprised (maybe I know nothing ) but now I'm wondering whether I need to offer her water in addition to bf because of the solids?

I didn't want to post in weaning because I'm not trying to wean her - she's just getting the taste of food iykwim. I really want to bf her for the majority of feeds up to 1 and to continue well beyond that. I have been a bit taken aback by her enthusiasm for solids and I'm quite happy to be led by her. A but confused tbh. Any advice from experienced bfers?

My DD needed water when we started solids. (Pediatrician recommended it as well.) I still (11.5 months) have to kind of coax her to drink it but it makes a big difference to her.

If your DD is enjoying the food, don't worry about her weaning. I think it's highly unlikely that she will give up her milk feeds. Don't be surprised if she goes along with the purees for a while and then refuses. It's a long process to get used to solids and nothing tastes as good as milk.

That's a relief actually. I have felt a little bit rejected ( secretly in the back of my mind while being delighted to see her enjoying food )

Bump for any other views on water?

you could offer a little water in a lidded cup along with food - to get her used to the cup as much as anything else. As long as the poo isnt hard and dry then she isnt constipated - it just takes the body a little time to get used to a change in diet.

I offer water with every 'meal' sometimes he drinks it (not much) sometimes he just plays the throw it off the high chair game. I think he likes the cup and I also like to think he's cleansing his palette ready for the next mouthful.

Kellymom recommends just giving sips of water with solids, which is what we've done with my 10 m.o. DS.

We found the Doidy cup great (DS loves it) although a sippy cup is good for out & about.
