Worries of mum-to-be, in need of an advice

Hello everyone!

Im around 12 weeks pregnant and worried that i have never been checked internally or externally, which makes me feel neglected as a future parent.

Is that normal? or I should point out to midwifes that im not happy about something?

Have you had your booking in appointment, scan and early bloods taken? In my experience midwives don't usually pay any attention till you are 16 weeks and you will have a chat they might measure your bump and listen to baby's heartbeat. You shouldn't be examined internally till your in labour/being induced as there's no need. Hope that helps!

Thank you. I had booking app but it was more about completing paperwork, she was quiet quick though..i will have to change her as she is not my local one..i just thought that that if first 13 weeks are deemed to be dangerous then i will have more care from gp, midwife

They don't usually do internal scans in the UK unless the pregnancy is high risk. Same with internal exams - they might do them right at the end when checking whether you're in labour or not.

It is very hands off here until the dating scan really. Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope the scan goes well :)

The first 12 weeks are higher risk in terms of the pregnancy, but the unfortunate truth is if anything goes wrong, there's normally a reason for it and nothing would be done to try and save the pregnancy.

Well it's not so much that nothing would be done, but that nothing can be done, so while it's tragic and upsetting, looking at the situation logically it doesn't make a lot of sense to do monitoring at that stage. In countries where monitoring is done earlier on there is usually a health insurance system which pays for these checks.

You are past 12 weeks which is seen as the "danger zone" so please don't worry too much, I didn't want to say before because it is scary with your first (I expect it's scary with your fifth!)
