Google Reader closing in July, Feedburner probably next

Any bloggers using either of these services to deliver RSS feeds to their readers need to know about this and need to be publicising the closure to existing subscribers.

Reader is being closed on 1 July 2013. The consensus from Mashable, TechCrunch et al is that Google are closing Reader in order to push people into using Google Plus.

Longtime users of Feedburner will be aware that it's not received any updates for ages and the existing interface looks like something from 2001. I believe FeedBurner will be on its' way out by the end of 2013, for the same reason.

It's worth finding and promoting an alternative RSS feed to your readers now and publishing a post (or even better, a static page on your blog) advising them on how to stay subscribed to your blog. I'm promoting Feedly, as I am an existing user and they have a very user-friendly export service. LifeHacker have produced a good guide on alternative RSS services here.

As far as FeedBurner goes, I'm trying to find an alternative RSS provider ASAP, as I don't want to redirect all my feeds and email subscriptions to FeedBurner, only to have to redirect them all over again when it closes. If anyone knows of a good alternative, please share it here?

I picked this link up from Twitter:

Alternatives to Google reader

Feedly seems to be getting favourable coverage and Digg is planning to expand its service as well apparently.
