We thought you might like to have a look at a video clip from Mumsnet BlogFest, where Miriam González Durántez kicked off the day with a fantastically inspiring opening speech.

Her subjects ranged from motherhood and domestic dramas; to feminism and the debt she feels she owes to her mother's generation; to the bond she felt with the women and girls she met in Tanzania, during a recent campaigning trip.

She's an active Mumsnetter and here, she very movingly thanks you lot for supporting her decision not to be a typical 'Leader's Wife'. The audio's a bit ropey, but do have a look - it's lovely!

SamCam would bring business acumen. Sarah Brown would bring media savvy and campaigner cred. Miriam would bring professional dedication and integrity (and all-round awesomeness) and Michelle would boss everyone else around.

What was she campaigning about?
Personally I'd love her to campaign on behalf of the girls in Liverpool and Hartlepool and all the other socially deprived areas in the country in support of their right to a free university education.

To be honest I'd prefer a proper politician than the wife of a crap one

She is not 'just' a wife of a politician, and her speech was not political. Why should we not ask inspiring women on for a webchat? We have webchats with writers and comedians.

She supports a charity that helps women and girls in Africa by giving them legal support. And she is also a big supporter of the Anthony Nolan Fund.

I know she's a high flyer etc but so are a lot of women in this country. If you believe there isn't a political agenda behind her sudden interest in mumsnet I think you're naive.

I love Miriam. I think she's great. I love the number of times she isn't at stupid parliamentary events because she has an actual, you know, life and career.

You know, I think in this country we focus too much on authors, comedians, etc. We assume an author is worthy of a webchat or whatever. But we don't assume the same about comparably successful women in business or professions. Maybe if we did it would help all our children reach beyond the current, celebrity obsessed culture to other aspirations

It would be soooo nice if we could just celebrate that a prominent, intelligent woman said some really lovely things about Mumsnet and gave a great speech at an event that celebrated women around UK, without someone pissing on the parade.
