We thought you might like to have a look at a video clip from Mumsnet BlogFest, where Miriam González Durántez kicked off the day with a fantastically inspiring opening speech.

Her subjects ranged from motherhood and domestic dramas; to feminism and the debt she feels she owes to her mother's generation; to the bond she felt with the women and girls she met in Tanzania, during a recent campaigning trip.

She's an active Mumsnetter <hooray!> and here, she very movingly thanks you lot for supporting her decision not to be a typical 'Leader's Wife'. The audio's a bit ropey, but do have a look - it's lovely!

I do really admire Mirian G-D. I will have a look at that clip.

I also think that Mumsnet's bloggers network is a Very Good Thing.

I thought she was incredibly inspiring, and in future we should all refer to deputy PM as Miriam GDs husband.

PuffPants Tue 13-Nov-12 19:34:36

I think she's awesome.

tribpot Tue 13-Nov-12 19:39:33

Miriam. Rocks. I'm quite sure between her, Sarah Brown, SamCam and Michelle Obama they would have no difficulty whatsoever taking over NATO.

Teladi Tue 13-Nov-12 20:15:52

She is awesome. How great that she is a MNetter as well. (hello!)

Lottapianos Tue 13-Nov-12 20:27:19

Well done for calling her by her proper name. It shreds my nerves when the TV refer to her as Miriam Clegg angry

BillyBollyBandy Tue 13-Nov-12 21:09:19

I would like her to be Prime Minister. And I quite like Cleggy too. That would be a much better coalition wink

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen Tue 13-Nov-12 21:16:37

I think tribpot has a point...

Spockster Tue 13-Nov-12 21:29:24

What precisely would SamCam bring to the party?hmm

weblette Tue 13-Nov-12 21:39:06

Dh worked with her dh for a while, said she was the brains...

Ponders Tue 13-Nov-12 21:51:24

she was the brains

very possibly.

HanSolo Tue 13-Nov-12 22:21:35

Is it possible for a transcript MNHQ? Can't read video on a 'phone...

BIWI Tue 13-Nov-12 22:34:44

I thought she was fabulous.

And such a sexy accent.... blush

tribpot Tue 13-Nov-12 22:51:14

SamCam would bring business acumen. Sarah Brown would bring media savvy and campaigner cred. Miriam would bring professional dedication and integrity (and all-round awesomeness) and Michelle would boss everyone else around.

peasabovesticks Tue 13-Nov-12 22:57:02

What was she campaigning about?
Personally I'd love her to campaign on behalf of the girls in Liverpool and Hartlepool and all the other socially deprived areas in the country in support of their right to a free university education.

MmeLindor Tue 13-Nov-12 23:08:56

She was brilliant. <waves to Miriam>

Can we have her on for an official webchat, Kate?

I'd have loved to have asked her some questions.

peasabovesticks Tue 13-Nov-12 23:13:22

To be honest I'd prefer a proper politician than the wife of a crap one

MmeLindor Tue 13-Nov-12 23:18:56

She is not 'just' a wife of a politician, and her speech was not political. Why should we not ask inspiring women on for a webchat? We have webchats with writers and comedians.

She supports a charity that helps women and girls in Africa by giving them legal support. And she is also a big supporter of the Anthony Nolan Fund.

peasabovesticks Tue 13-Nov-12 23:23:01

I know she's a high flyer etc but so are a lot of women in this country. If you believe there isn't a political agenda behind her sudden interest in mumsnet I think you're naive.

YoullScreamAboutItOneDay Tue 13-Nov-12 23:27:07

I love Miriam. I think she's great. I love the number of times she isn't at stupid parliamentary events because she has an actual, you know, life and career.

You know, I think in this country we focus too much on authors, comedians, etc. We assume an author is worthy of a webchat or whatever. But we don't assume the same about comparably successful women in business or professions. Maybe if we did it would help all our children reach beyond the current, celebrity obsessed culture to other aspirations <rant over>

peasabovesticks Tue 13-Nov-12 23:32:56

Nick Clegg is systematically fucking up the country but hey no, he has a nice looking wife who <gasps> has a good job. Let's all trip over ourselves in saying how marvellous she is hmm

caramelwaffle Tue 13-Nov-12 23:33:42

She seems lovely.

Excellent point Youll

MmeLindor Tue 13-Nov-12 23:33:58

I am not naive.

It would be soooo nice if we could just celebrate that a prominent, intelligent woman said some really lovely things about Mumsnet and gave a great speech at an event that celebrated women around UK, without someone pissing on the parade.
