I've recently discovered a newish blog with the same name as mine. Does anyone know the legalities around protecting your name? Thanks

Do you have a copyright notice on your blog?

I don't think you can copyright the name, but I really don't know. I do know books can have the same name, a Google search shows that, so I assume there are no laws about blog names.

What's the name? ::nosy::

Well, considering there are newspapers and magazines with the same/similar names, I would imagine you can't copyright names.

It's a nice blog! Grin

You can copyright a company name, and the logo but I don't know if it would be worth it for a blog unless you were making a lot of money from blogging .

Copywriting a name is more difficult for reasons stated above, but copywriting the "content" - you should do this as a matter of course to protect it against phishing (think that's what its called) - stick a copyright symbol plus 2012 at the bottom of the blog to reinforce your copyright.
