Featured Bloggers?

I have been wondering about the 'Featured Bloggers' list on the right hand column of this page. When I joined I thought they said that bloggers would be rotated through this column. I then noticed that it is nearly always the same blogs that are 'featured'. So then I thought It must just be the very popular or outstanding blogs, but then I clicked on one the other day and there were no posts on the blog at all! Not one! So what's that all about then?

This question has come up before - and I was glad it did, because I was wondering just the same. To be honest, I suspect the Mumsnet people who run the blogs are a bit overworked (there constantly seem to be more new bloggers being added) and I think that column has got neglected. I was hoping I'd have been a featured blogger by now, after about 8 months of being on here, and writing a good quality, well-written post at least once every week, and I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't been! Haven't quite summoned up the nerve to point it out to them yet though! It has changed a few times, but it does seem a bit random and I can't work out a pattern to why they choose whose on there. Anyone else know any better?

Hello everyone

You're quite right, it hasn't changed in a good old while - afraid we've been having some technical issues and it got a bit stuck...  But we've resolved it now and from now on we'll be rotating this box a lot more frequently.

This might also be a good moment to introduce myself, though if you're a regular MNer you might already know me from the Campaigns threads. I'm hugely excited to be joining the Bloggers team as editor, where I'll be racing to catch up with working alongside the fabulous Elen.  So please do continue to post your questions and suggestions on the Bloggers talk threads and we'll do our best to get back to you asap.

Great, thanks for that Kate. Can you just confirm how it works? Do all blogs get rotated through or is it actually designed to feature outstanding or popular blogs? Also could you confirm that you have to have submitted as photo to feature? Many thanks.

It probably won't be a rotation of all blogs - our plan is to continue to use 'featured bloggers' to promote great writing from the network. So, a few voices you might already know, some less well-known but very compelling ones - and some really topical writing. We're going to make sure we keep it fresh, and we're also looking at expanding the ways we promote our bloggers - so please do watch this space. And yes, you do have to have submitted a photo, though of course it doesn't have to feature you in person.
