Technorati

This is supposed to be a good tool for bloggers to use to get their pageviews up. I have been on it for 6 months and rarely have any traffic from it. Does anyone else 'use' Technorati? Am I doing something wrong? It doesn't help that it doesn't have a 'humour' category, so perhaps it's just not set up for my kind of blog. Would be interested to hear about the experiences of others.

I've not been on it that long, so can't say yet. But will let you know.
I seem to get a fair bit of traffic from StumbleUpon; so you might want to look into that. Only problem is that once you've got the toolbar you get a little hooked on 'stumbling' around the net yourself!!

I'm still very new to the blogging scene and haven't tried either technorati or StumbleUpon yet but have found Reddit to get my traffic up. The thing I did notice was that most of the traffic bounced and didn't look at any other posts whereas traffic generated from link parties stayed on my site longer so not sure if it is worth it in terms of gathering followers but guess it depends on the topic of blog and what you're aiming for.

Thanks Both for your replies. I joined SU a while ago, but I must be being thick as I can't see what to do. I understand how to 'Stumble' and do so, but how do I submit a blog link?
Just submitted a link to Reddit now, so will see what happens.
Technorati remains a mystery.

For SU, you 'like' your own webpage by clicking the thumbs up. This brings up a review screen which just needs a couple of clicks & then your webpage is added to the stream of pages that others can stumble to. I add each post. But I also like other sites too as it's not really ideal to only promote your own on it!

Thanks YMR-I've got further thanks to your instructions, then I did before. I think i've got it. It's not very user friendly is it? Maybe it's set up for people who are more familiar with such things then me!!

Have you got as far as having the stumble and thumbs up/down in your tool bar? that makes it really fast. If not let me know & when I get to a proper computer I will send you the link. :-)

Hi YMR-No-I can't see how to do that. Not sure I've done it properly, to be honest.

Nope, not getting the StumbleUpon thing at all. Can anyone tell me where/ how I actually put a link to my blog on there in the first place? I'm registered and everything-it keeps telling me to 'stumble my interests', which is fine, but nowhere to add my blog link.
Also, still no luck with Technorati. Does anyone use or have success with them?

Technorati is only really useful IMHO if you're interested in being placed in blogger charts - a lot of blogger charts use it. It's not a traffic-driver.

I would like more traffic so I must be a 'traffic driver', and Tech is supposed to be a very good traffic source. Has no one used it to any effect? I'm like QM-joined it and that's it!

www.stumbleupon.com/downloads

Hi, If you click on the StumbleUpon link I've added here, then literally just drag the 'link' of the Stumble Upon toolbar up to your toolbar, then the 'Stumbe', 'Like it' and 'Thumbs down' appear on your toolbar.

You don't need to register your blog with stumbleupon, instead you click the thumbs up when you are on your blog page. It then gives you the option to simply add the site without adding anything further, or to give it a brief review and allocated particular tags to it (i.e. you can tell SU more about the page by putting it in the right categories.) Once you done this, the page you've thumbed up automatically is added to the Stumble Upon database and will become on of the sites that others are presented with when they 'stumble' themselves to find sites.

Nickie at I Am Typecast did the original post that I followed: Find that here:

As for Technorati. You can join it without necessarily claiming your blog, which won't do anything for your ratings, you'll just be a member without them necessarily being away of your blog. You have to go to your profile page in Technorati and at the bottom you have the option to 'claim' your blog. It involves adding a unique code to one of your blog posts so they can trawl the internet and confirm that you are indeed the author of the blog. Once done, your blog is added to their blog roll. It is then allocated a Technorati Authority score which is based on how many other sites linked to yours among other things. In general people add their blogs here as you need a technorati score to creep up the Tots100 ranking charts for example. Higher rankings, better scores equal move visitors.

I don't think, on it's own, it'll drive much traffic.

To be honest my traffic has increased pretty quickly since I joined and started regularly using Twitter. That's my best traffic source now. @ymummyreally if you are interested Wink

Hope that all helps!!
have fun Smile

blackaffronted Are you on blogger? If you scroll down to the bottom of your home page you should find something that says "subscribe to:posts(atom)". If you right click on it, one of the options is "copy link location". That's your feed.
Alternatively you can go into settings, other. Your post feed url is listed there.

pockledigg No problem. Hope it was helpful.

YummyMummyReally-Thanks again for your help-finally got SU sorted due to your help and it's bringing a fair bit of traffic my way. Thinking of going back a few posts and 'thumbing up' each individual one. Do you think that would be a good idea?

pockledigg You could do.. I don't see that it would do any harm. I'd definitely thumbs up a few other websites inbetween too though. As with anything like this, I think they get a bit annoyed if it's just your own stuff you are thumbing up! You could always throw a few thumbs up my way? (cheeky Wink !!) Glad it was helpful.
