Are only 'professional' blogs being accepted?

Just wondering as all the blogs I've seen on the network are either by journalists or NCT leaders, etc. Are bog-standard blogs created by mums without flashy layouts being declined? I haven't seen any listed on the network.

I applied a week ago but I haven't heard anything, not even an acknowledgement email.

You obviously aren't looking very close. I am neither a journalist or even a member of the NCT and I am on the bloggers network.

They have gotten a lot more applications then they were expecting so I imagine you'll hear in due course. If you read the announcement thread there is a lot of information in there.

I'm not a journalist, a member of the NCT or a professional in any capacity. And I don't even blog about my children.

Have you checked your spam folder? Someone on one of the other threads said her acknowledgement e-mail ended up there despite no other MN emails getting screened out.

I'm no professional, and I've had an acknowledgement, and waiting on them to sift through the inbox until they get to me. I think they must be a bit overwhelmed, and they are reading the blogs before they approve them to make sure that nothing inappropriate gets through, so it will be slower than you might at first think. It's not just a case of sending out a badge for your blog and putting a link to it on the site.

I'm not professional, and my blog was even on the network front page header yesterday. The majority of network blogs are regular people, I think. You must only be looking at the 'big name' list.

Hi -- Thanks for raising this. We're trying to build a network that promotes new voices and big names, but the emphasis is on great writing for its own sake. We want to encourage lots of Mumsnetters to start blogging and are promoting a broad mix of subjects in our top slot on the homepage. We're trying to introduce you to the range of voices and issues as we build up our numbers. But our aim is to give everyone 15+ minutes of fame .

Sorry to hear you didn't get the acknowledgement email. They should be automatic. If you send us a link to [email protected], we can look for the application to make sure. There are a few blogs that won't make sense within our network - and when that happens we'll email them to explain or chat about why, and figure out whether we can find a way around that. And we're always open to revisiting blogs later on. That's why it's taking a little while to get back to everyone. Each blog is individual, and someone's work, so it matters.
