Hello ladies!

Hester - I'd recommend blackout blinds. I actually have blackout blinds AND blackout fabric velcroed to the windows in our bedrooms. Wooden looks pretty but I think it's better in bathrooms and living spaces rather than bedrooms, where practicality is more important. And blackouts are cheaper.

Hester is this your first, I can't remember?

hester -

first of all, thrush.... i have never found yoghurt work AT ALL!!! my midwife (and in fact my gp) has always recommended the canestan pessary. you can't take the oral tablet, but you can use the pessary. having said that, i did have a phamramcist refuse to sell me one (but then she is a bit of a pain and has panicked me about other random things as well!! i don't go there any more ). i work on the principle that if we are allowed to have sex then a little pessary isn't going to have any detrimental effect !!! depending on your dh/dp's willy size obviously!!! sorry, was trying to be serious, but then it all went wrong!!

blinds - i have lined my nursery curtains with black out fabric. i am not trying to make it totally totally dark, but it would be nice to have the option of darkness in the daytime. if you are plannig to follow gina ford (and please lets not discuss that on this thread as it always involves arguments!! ) then you will need proper darkness.
hope that helps anyway, have to get back to celebrity love island now - high brow tv don't you know!!!

Thrush - im a victim im afraid! Im another vote for the canesten pessary and cream duo thing.... £8.99 in boots, go to docs - get it prescibed for free!!!

I never suffered in last pg, but been riddled this time - blame dh myself! Sex seems to bring it on!

we just have normal curtains in dd's room, and they havent been a problem... thought about black bags at the windows when the mornings got lighter, but it doesnt seem to have affected her - lets see if it works with this one or not!!! They will be sharing a room unless the army are feeling generous enough to supply us with a 3 bed house!

jm - wierd isn't it? in my last pg i had thrush all the time - and it was definitely triggered or worsened by sex. this time i have only had it once and it cleared up with a pessary in a couple of days. hopefully (and fingers crossed) it won't come back either. i suppose they do say that all pgs are different.

How do you know you've got thrush without all the usual symptoms? I've been lucky and never had it at all, but I've also never been examined 'down there' when at the midwife. At my last appointment, my midwife was sick so I saw her cover and didn't even have my urine tested. Not going again until next Thursday so will have to see if have a more thorough examination!

ONE WEEK TO GO TIL MY SCAN!!! So excited! And very nervous that they'll find something wrong / tell me something awful. Is it normal to be so worried or am I just an oddball?

Hey guy - a new thread woohoo. By the time we're finished we'll have a million threads going.

Did anybody find Friday's heat unbearable? Went for a walk as it was suffocating in the caravan, but got halfway and had to ring b-i-l to come pick me up as was feeling very faint!

Had a nice relaxing weekend anwyay - had bbq and went for a picnic. Just looking forward to three weeks time as hopefully be lying by the pool somewhere nice and warm. With regards to the sunbathing - thanks for the advice - think I'll just see how it goes with plenty of suncream and dips in the pool!

To those of you talking about alcohol - I've just been having one or two now and again. Shandys mostly! I keep thinking last time my sil was pg we went for her birthday just before she found out and was on champagne and tequilas all night and her dd is absolutely perfect.

Hope you all had a good weekend!

hello, great to have a new thread. The weather's been lovely but Friday was too hot. I had a hairdressers appointment and it was a nightmare, felt really horrible, fat and sweaty (left with nice hair though )

Regarding blackouts, i've never used them for dds room and she's always slept fine, during the day and at night (she'll probably be up all night now i've said that!) but i was also thinking of getting some this time as you never know how the baby will be. I've heard they're very good and probably well worth it.

Elf, i think everyone's nervous about the scan. It's a shame because like you said you're really looking forward to it but are anxious at the same time. Are you finding out the sex?

Well going for a shower now and will be spending a lovely day in the garden if the weather stays like this!

Hi all,

been away for last holiday before little one is born. Such a good time. Sunbathed but kept factor 25 on. I found the heat harder to cope with than normal and got very hot very quickly. Apart from that all went well .

My 23 week scan is on the 17th and i don't think DH can make it as just started new job. Do you think i should insist just in case or go it a lone???

ohh also felt little one kick for the first time while we were away. so exciting

Report
Joseyjo · 31/05/2005 11:56

lexie - i would insist on your dh coming. i find scans really stressful (even when everything is fine and dandy!!!). there is also the bonding factor, which may or may not be relevant, but it is supposed to help m & d bond with the baby when it is born.

jovolett - where are you going on holiday? we are going for our last baby free holiday to madeira to do absolutely nothing for a week. i think it is going to kill my fidgetty dh, but never mind! we are going in 3 weeks too and i am nearly ready to count the days!!!

the best thing is that by the time i get back from holiday, i will only have 8 weeks left at work!!!!! now THAT is something to look forward to

How come you're selling maternity clothes JoseyJo, shouldn't you be WEARING them instead?

We haven't booked the hol yet - just got the money ready in the bank to just book and go. Waiting for a good deal to come along - want to go somewhere nice as it's our last hol alone together. Desperately need a hol - our last proper one was our honeymoon almost two years ago now! Don't think we're gonna find a cheapy to Mexico tho - quite fancy Corfu or Tenerife.

Is anyone else feeling the baby shiver - really strange sensation now and again like the baby is shivering for a second. My belly is making some strange shapes now and I swear the baby was playing with a rib on Friday! I find it amazing that there is a little boy wriggling around in my belly and I'm loving feeling all the movement. Will def miss it when he's out. Suppose I'll have plenty of others things to enjoy then tho.

gonna sound silly and slightly embarressing.... but has anyone sneezed/coughed and wet themselves?! We had just got back from shopping this morning, needed toilet but sneezed hard and wet myself - the shame!!! Dh just laughed!

Joseyjo · 31/05/2005 14:31

morningpaper - i know!! i have so many though and i have had donations from 2 friends, both of whom are (slightly) smaller than me!! the ones i am selling don't fit any more or are just surplus to requirements. you wouldn't believe how much i have in my wardrobe and i have only actually bought about 4 things from h&m!!!

jm - yep have weed myself just a little bit. i tried to see it as a progressive stage of pregnancy and then went back to my pelvic floor exercises which make a big difference! also it feels like half of the muscles in my stomach are ripping every time i sneeze... does anyone else get that?

jovolett - my bubba makes the strangest movements but they are all lovely. i have started thinking about how much i will miss it when it comes out. especially as we are not in a position to discuss whether or not we will have another one until after this one is born.

I'm pleased to say I have not yet wet myself but I get that stomach-tearing feeling a lot - it's SO uncomfy, like being electrocuted!

Report
Piggiesmum · 31/05/2005 20:26

not weed myself yet but I get that stomache tearing feeling too when I sneeze etc.

Are we supposed to have started pelvic floor exercises already

Getting nervous and excited now, got my scan on Friday

Report
jessicasmummy · 31/05/2005 20:28

possibly is it because i have a young baby already?! i dont want to be seen as weird now!!!

Report

no you are normal jm - all my mummy friends are jealous that I never wet myself!

Report
jessicasmummy · 31/05/2005 20:30

u r just too lucky then!!! im jealous now too

Report
morningpaper · 31/05/2005 20:32

But on the bad side, my pelvic floor was apparently so tight that I had to have a massive episiotomy to push dd around it and I tore my anus from the inside out because the muscles were so tight and wouldn't stretch.

... so swings and roundabouts ...

Report
jessicasmummy · 31/05/2005 20:34

OUCH!

No tears with jess, and praying nothing again this time!!! I thought i got away lightly with that one after the horror stories ive read on here!

MP - you planning hospital or home birth this time?! My midwife seems keen to let me deliver at home, but after jess needing ressuscitation at birth i would have thought it safer to be in hospital?! Who knows!!!

That sounds really awful morningpaper - and you lived to tell the tale!

Afraid I'm one of the wetters too. And that stomach thing with the sneezes - had forgotten how pleasant that is! Better make sure we don't catch colds...

Report
Moomin · 31/05/2005 21:19

ooooooh morningpaper you've made my bum go all funny reading your story.... [shudder]

I thought i was all vaginus intactus as I'd had a c-section with dd ... until i went on a bouncy castle a year later and weed myself. Seems your pelvic floor can go even if you don't have a vag. birth. So now I know.

Report
SusiS · 31/05/2005 21:32

a weer too
every time i sneeze!!! i always have to hold my bump too; might hurt
