Life Before Birth - Tonight - A must see!

Hey everyone,

For your information:

Tonight (Thursday) at 9pm - 11.10pm

Here's an ambitious film, a poetic account of life inside the womb from the point of view of a growing baby. As we follow the course of a pregnancy from a cloud of hopeful sperm all the way to the drama of labour, Roger McGough reads mini-poems for each stage, and a second voiceover delivers amazing facts on foetal development. The poetry and narration dovetail nicely, but it's the images that make this so special - a foetus squidging its nose, or trampolining around the uterus, or hiccupping. Which of these moments are achieved by special effects - a mixture of models and computer-generated imagery - and which are real, taken by uterine cameras, becomes impossible to tell, and it hardly matters when the story is so well told. What must be genuine are the amazing ultrasound scans of a foetus looking as if it were made of mud, wriggling and grimacing in real time, and a pair of twins jostling each other in the womb. It's captivating stuff.

anyone got "Life Before Birth" on video or DVD or know where I could get a copy? Will pay for postage of course and return it to you if you want it back.

Trix1 Tue 24-May-05 16:18:19

Hi Lyra

A girl I work with has got a copy that she lent to me, I will get it copied onto DVD and send it to you. I am sure its the programme you are after.

motherpeculiar Tue 24-May-05 16:43:47

sorry to butt in but Trix if you could do that for me too I would be eternally grateful (and happily pay for the DVD etc.)

The program was on TV the night before I gave birth to DD2 and I couldn't bear to watch it as I knew things were kicking off and I was too nervous. But I'd love to see it now.

before you ask - NO IDEA why I didn't ask someone to video it at the time, mind on other things I guess

i saw this programme about 10 weeks ago when it was last shown on was fantastic, and a real eye opener, even taught my dad a few things and he has 3 grown up children, 4 grandchildren and my little bundle on the way LOL. anyway, my daughter who was 5 at the time was asking many questions about conception and how the bubba got in my stomach and i found this really helpful, as she now tells anyone who'll listen all about the sperm and the egg that made her sister to be. it is definitely a must see!!!!!

Hi, I only caught the end of Life before birth. It looked amazing. A friend missed it all together and is really keen to see it. Any chance Someone could lend me a copy/do me a copy. I'm happy to pay for this fantastic documentary. Ch4 no longer have anything about it on their website and other searches have proved fruitless. If you can help I would be so greatful.

There is a National Georaphic version called "In the womb" being shown periodically on the National Geographic Channel. It has been Americanised and I can't promise that there will be poetry but it should be equally informative.

The next showing is on Friday 10th with part 1 at 9 & part 2 at 10pm.

However i am now up the duff and would love to get hold of a copy so my husband can watch it - he wasn't the slightest bit interested at the time!
