THanks pf Ilana - my thoughts are with you. Keeping everything crossed that Saul gets home asap xx

Report
PetitFilou1 · 22/07/2008 15:47

For all those coming to this thread first I have cut and pasted Ilana's last post to update you. We are all hoping she and Saul are ok as things did not go entirely to plan.

New posters - please can you copy and paste and add yourselves to the list. I'm not quite as adept as TS who is absent from the thread today! I probably won't be on tomorrow much as have the dcs all day so hope this at least gets the new thread going.

From Ilana:

Hi all, just popping in to update you.

Things did not go exactly to plan. Saul was born yesterday by csection at 2:10pm. He was breach and they had some difficulty getting him out (actually pushed him back in at one point to turn him). He was checked by a pediatrician right away as his breathing was very fast. Then all seemed well and he went to recovery with me and then to postnatal ward. There was just enough time for my other sons to visit with my mother while all seemed ok. He was checked again by another pediatrician as the midwife also was not happy with his breathing.

They all left and my dad turned up to visit. Cue another pediatrician. While my dad was holding Saul, he went grey and was whisked away. From that moment on, I did not get him back. He was on the resus table in the ward with multiple people over him for a while and then transfered down to SCBU. Cue loads of tears from me as I really did not want him in SCBU.

He has been there ever since. He is on a drip to feed him, oxygen, antiobiotics in case of infection. He is likely to be there at least another week.

I got myself discharged at lunch time today as I had no sleep at all in the postnatal ward last night and could not face being there again tonight. I managed to get out of bed within 4 hours of the operation being over as I wanted to get to scbu to see Saul. This definately speeded up my recovery. I am home now but will obviously be going back tomorow to see him.

There is the possibility of being readmitted to "transitional care" in a few days if Saul progresses well enough to leave scbu. Then I can be with him while they continue to monitor him. This is what I am hoping for.

The hardest part is my 4 year old asking me why Saul isn't at home and getting upset as he wants him here.

really not sure what it is, but he's got chicken pox 10x worse than ds1 and it;s a real shock as i didn't think he'd get it at all, being under my immunity and all that. he's had double exposure to it though so not sure if that's anything to do with it. Hopefully the doc will know what his mysterious thing is!

it's always one thing after a bloody another here, can't wait to have a break on friday as kids off to mums thursday night. will sleep ALL DAY

Bealcain Thinking about it - are you sure he hasn't just got chickenpox round his willy (ds had that and round his bum - had it really badly at 14 months) Oh I'm itching just thinking about it. I remember how distressed poor ds was (and we were always told the younger they get it the easier it is - well you shouldn't always believe what you hear...)

I'm guessing TS is merely having to pretend she doesn't spend all day on MN since her MIL has moved in. Everything has its price...

Am knackered now after just 40min walk to collect car from MOT (3 tyres in 'dangerous' condition!) Gonna munch some secret birthday chocolate while the kids are glued to the tv downstairs. Help yourselves...

VG re: Cervix Check: At this stage in the game and with what's been going on, yes the cervix check would be normal but not a must. He asked if I'd like one but knowing it's a little uncomfortable for him with DH standing next to him, I passed. It doesn't matter really. Know the numbers is just an odd little highlight for....since I like stats so much. :-)

Expectant, good to hear the grands are coming to visit. How is Christmas time there? Is it lavish or low key??

Oops, funny your DH left the bed last night....mine was up with me. He can't go anywhere now that MIL is in the guest bed. Oh wait that's not the odd part...I actually slept in MY bed last night...what little I slept.

Happy Birthday Buckets!!

Sazzles good job with the wax.

Cyteen I've been tested for GBS. I'm negative. Can't say if it's related to painful sex...haven't had any in a LOOONNNNGGGG while.

Welcome Murf.

BEALCAIN glad you are okay!!! {{{HUGS}}}

IlanaK {{{HUG}}}} OH MY!!! Sending all my most positive vibes your way.

Thanks for new thread here buckets. We will of course excuse the lack of flashing lights and usual decadence that TS gives us - you make a damned fine stand in!!

EEEEK news - rang mw re headaches etc and she has just been out to see me. Bp up at 140/95 (usually around 90/50), and I have rib pain which of course I always put down to baby's head butting there all the time. Also protein in wee. She phoned the maternity assessment unit and they want to see me.....bugger. Have to head up there for 7pm.

Of course I can't drive like this, and double of course, dh is leaving Stockport as we speak (a 2hour journey home!). So my lovely friend is picking ds up from nursery and taking him back to hers, and if dh isn't home I will get a taxi up to hospital and see him there later.

And there's me thinking I'm making a fuss over nothing.....

Just happened to check my ladygarden in the bathroom mirror and PMSL. Maybe 'thinning' it out blindly in the bath the other night wasn't such a good idea. Sure DH will not be able to perform he will be laughing so much.

TS sorry to hear you had a rough night hope you manage to catch up on sleep.

Buckets thanks for the choccie - well done you on a 40 min walk, I can barely manage a 40 second walk!!

Does anyone know if a UTI can cause BH's to get stronger?? Had a call from the docs earlier to say the unrine sample they sent off at my last MW appt (had protein in it) has come back positive for UTI so got to collect some Anti-biotics

Thanks Buckets, no camomile here though so going to have licquorice tea instead.
This is sod's law:

  1. Today my mum was meant to be over but stayed away as she is full of cold/cough etc.
  2. Lovely nursery lady who offered to have ds - it is the one evening she cannot help out!
  3. Dh is 2 hours away (usually he is home by 5)
  4. My sis is ill (and would only use her as a last resort anyway)
  5. My other friend who would have had ds is away this week.

Thank the Lord for my dearest friend (who is ds' godmum) who has 2 lo's of her own, doesn't drive but is going to use her parents to help pick ds up from nursery (her ds goes to same nursery). God bless her she is a star.

do you think I should finish packing my hospital bag at some stage?
