NCT classes by Zoom

Hi all,

I’ve been looking into NCT classes as my first is due in January. It seems they are planning to run them by Zoom, rather than in-person.

Has anyone does Zoom NCT classes, and did you find it worthwhile? I’m reluctant to spend the best part of £200 for what might be a second-rate experience.

Thanks!

I did the in person classes and found the information given invaluable. Obviously there’s less interaction over zoom but even the basic information on eg stages of labour, pain relief, reading baby cues, breastfeeding etc would be worth the money in my opinion.

I'm so incredibly happy I did the NCT classes. I did them over zoom. The information they provided was brilliant, the teacher is a doula and we can call and talk to her any time we want, we also had a breastfeeding consultant do a couple of lessons and she's a retired midwife and we can also call her whenever we need to. But also the support I have had from the other mums has been invaluable. To be in contact with people experiencing the same thing at the same time.

Absolutely worth every single penny.

I did them on Zoom (due this month) and found them useful.

The group leader was batty as anything and every session over ran by at least 30mins but def think it was worthwhile to do. They set you up on a WhatsApp group with the other parents to be from your sessions, too, and during the zoom sessions sent us off to discuss things in 'breakout rooms' so we got the opportunity to chat a bit freer and get to know each other. As a group we organised our own socially distant meet up outside (separate from NCT) and it was lovely to meet them in person beyond nct zoom sessions. We've got a spin off mummies WhatsApp group which has been so great as we all ask the stupid questions we might be uncomfortable asking in our mixed mums/dad group. Feels very supportive and good to know we're not the only ones feeling so let down by general maternity experiences through lockdown, too.

Do it.

Thanks for the responses. It does sound like they will still be worthwhile, even if it is over Zoom.

We did the refresher course on Zoom, having done the usual course for our first baby.

It was strange at first being on Zoom. We had been reluctant to pay so much for a lesser experience. But we're so glad we did.

The teaching worked as well as in person, which I expected. Unexpectedly, the bonding also worked as well.

Our group (well, mums and older siblings) managed to meet up in person once outside before babies arrived and we hope to meet up again very soon.

And we've been on WhatsApp a lot. The group has been such a support, and I think that's more important now than ever, when you can't do easily meet other new mothers at baby groups.

I did the post natal via zoom (first few in person, pre lock down). We've had a few social distance meet ups. So helpful during lockdown as it really helped keep me going. A great resource. Would recommend it. (Also did refresher pre natal, but in person and so worth it too
