Marking my spot. Third trimester Shock

Yay! Admarks, I haven't suffered as far as I know but things have certainly slowed down in that area. Up to week 15 I was going more & now it's a lot less. Your DH is brave, I know mine wouldn't offer. Grin What are we putting our bodies through! Also, how do women's bodies cope doing this again & again (eg. 15 kids & counting) I love being a mum but I don't want to be permanently pregnant for the next 15 years.

Agree emz - our bodies are doing an amzing thing but I can't imagine doing this many more times! There's a new surprise round every corner. Haven't hit the heartburn and piles stage yet...I'm hoping to be lucky and avoid them altogether Halo

colonol - not sure if you're on this thread yet but in response to the jabs, mw hasn't mentioned rubella but I'm up to date on that one as I caught mumps in my early twenties due to not having had the booster before leaving school so had the booster straight after to ensure I didn't get measles or rubella too. I'd check with her about that one.

Just bought our cot online using a voucher from Emma's Diary - it's being delivered this week too - feeling super organised!

Yay, thanks for the new thread Bella!

Shall we do a roll call? I know we are a fairly small group and very close together** (but I still forget some of your details!)

I second the amazing thing that our bodies are doing without any training or prompting! It's not really surprising that we get some unpleasant side effects! I shouldn't moan really, I think I've been quite lucky so far. I hope the third trimester continues to be kind to us!

Top marks for buying a cot Bella!

admarks I've been so worried about getting piles (never had them but heard alllllllll about them) that whenever I have constipation (which is often) I just don't, er, strain, at all. So I haven't got piles BUT this does have the effect of giving me lots of trapped wind. You win some you lose some!

bella yes I think I will check about rubella. If I'm honest I don't have the greatest confidence in my midwife Hmm. Well done on the organisation! DH is really ill at the moment so all baby planning has come to a halt (except for me, in my head, where everything is still going on but I'm just not issuing instructions anymore!).

What does 'team yellow' mean?

hmm. worried about the rubella now. I got both my shots as a child but got mumps anyway at university (apparently a hotbed for infectious diseases) so does that mean I'm no longer immune? I wasn't offered one though with DD1.
for the roll call..

EDD 5/1/17 although baby will likely come early like sister
I'm surprised at how many of us are on team yellow! I always get slightly puzzled looks when I say we are finding out at birth. :)

lucy well funnily enough everyone I meet seems to not want to find out the sex! I was starting feeling like the odd one out!

On the topic of babies coming early/late...is anyone bothering with a birth plan?

I'm going to have a basic birth plan. Mw sounds obssessed with creating this birth plan where my choice is important but to be honest, I just want to deliver my baby safely, modern medicine has developed so much I trust their opinion.

This will be my plan: try and get to the midwife led unit at hospital, yes to the drugs unless I turn superhuman and can cope without but I highly doubt it take a lead from the midwives/doctors re c section/ventouse/forceps. And that's it.

I'm hoping to be chilled and let baby come out when ready (rather than induce too early) but to be honest, I don't know how I'll be feeling by 40weeks so I could well be desparate to be induced by that stage so keeping an open mind.

What about everyone else?

I feel similar, my plan is to go in with bump, come out with baby. I don't really mind what happens in between. It's just that all the newsletters and such about pregnancy at the moment seem to be about sorting out the birth plan etc but from what I've heard, there is absolutely no point in having one at all. Of all the events in life this seems to be the one over which you have the least control!
Saying that, I do have the vaguest hope that it will be a natural and relaxed affair minus drugs, but if that actually happens I'll be shocked.

I think having a general idea would be helpful as they will ask anyway. So home / hospital?, if hospital whether MW / consultant-led? I think some MW led units do not have epidurals, so depending on the drugs you want an you may have to go to the Obs-led unit. They'll also ask whether you want an injection to help deliver the placenta, whether you want baby to get Vit K injection at birth.
DD1 was delivered in a obs-led hospital unit because my waters broke early and labour did not progress. And because she was a bit small at birth, I'm considered "higher risk" for small baby again and don't have a choice but to have a obs-led hospital birth. Although I have heard of 2 stories of 2nd baby deliveries which were so fast one happened in the living room, the other in the ambulance just down her road.

Team blue!

I've had a very annoying side effect last week - extremely dry, itchy and very red eyes/eyelids! Can't wear any makeup and they feel like they're burning! Chemist wasn't much help so am going to check with midwife on Thursday to see if it's just another symptom (a bit of googling reveals dry eyes are common in pregnancy :( )

I agree with birth plan - go in with bump, out with baby! Preferably with few drugs as possible but keeping a v open mind! I'm quite tempted by a waterbirth if the situation allowed just because it feels like it might be a bit less stressful! But that's based on v little research!

Report
Admarks · 04/10/2016 20:28

That sounds nasty first timer! How long have you had the sensitive eyes, hopefully it clears before you see the midwife on Thursday!

I'm with you all on the relaxed birth plan, i just want a happy and healthy baby to take home and am happy blank out the labour from my memory if need be! I'd like to go to the birthing centre (midwife led) and have a water birth (next to the main labour ward), with as much gas and air as they'll give me. I've heard it's amazing! I need to stay 'low risk' for this at my hospital, so fingers crossed I do!

However, if this doesn't happen for whatever reason I'll take the advice of the medical team around me. I'm unsure about epidural (heard a story yesterday from my husband about an epidural which went wrong), but I suppose if I can't take the pain then I'll go down that route.

I met with our birthing options team a couple of months ago as my midwife had noted I had anxiety about the birth and have had a tour of the hospital and good chat which helped loads. I've got a meeting with them again in a couple of weeks to prepare a birthing plan....

Oh for my stats - the key one EDD 30/12/16. I will try and compile a list of us all at the weekend.

I can't believe there are so many of us in 'team yellow'. Everyone seems shocked that we haven't found out (I did take a lot of will power and I'm still tempted to find out!!)

It was much needed & I slept like the dead lastnight. Which meant I struggled to wake up which meant my DS was late to his first day at pre-school. Oops. Had my bloods taken this morning community MW told me to do it at 27 weeks & I didn't need to do the lucozade test. When I turned up the phlebotomist told me it should be at 28 weeks & hospital wanted me to do the lucozade thing! Sometimes I do wonder about the NHS. On a positive (!) I turned up at my gps for blood & asked about flu & whopping cough jab... They did it straight after the blood. Feeling more organised now health wise
