Hello! Thanks for the new thread. Just got back from midwife. Had a semi-sweep. She said my cervix is soft but 2cm long and not very open so she couldn't do a full sweep. So not banking on it doing much but oh well. Am only 39+3. Had the sweep early because of gd. She worried me a bit when I asked her to remind me how close together contractions need to be before I go in. Apparently it's all a lot quicker second time and if I wait for them to become very frequent I will be giving birth in the taxi. This is my fear as have to get dd settled somewhere and she was quicker than average for a first birth.

Leanne induction often rules out birth pools but not always so check with midwife. Some hospitals have waterproof monitors and you may not need constant monitoring if you have the pessary /gel as opposed to the drip. You'd probably have to actually give birth on dry land and won't be allowed mlu but if there is a pool on.your Labour ward you might still be allowed it for pain relief. Hopefully you won't get that far anyway. Come on back of busers!

On the upside I am feeling almost human again. Oh and told midwife about movements changing and she didn't seem concerned - just said she hoped it was the bum rather than head I was feeling or she wouldn't be doing any sweep.

longest I'm the same re worrying about timing as my dd was only a 7hr labour so this one could be very quick and I have to make sure I leave enough time to call my mum or MIL to come and sit with her.. Prob is because this baby keeps teasing me with stop/start pains I'm scared when it does really kick in I'm going to ignore it thinking it's another false alarm then end up giving birth on my bathroom floor or something!

Am hopeful the sweep will kick it all off so I'm pretty sure it's the real deal and can get my dd settled before going to MLU... That's the hope anyway!

Same here re speed concerns.
DS was fairly quick once it got going, they were still filling the pool when I delivered. And have heard so many stories of third labours being "blink and you'll miss it" style that I'm convinced I'll end up delivering on the carpet. Saves childcare I suppose :P
Glad you got a mini sweep longest
I had some ctx earlier that felt far more wave like and cramps than the ones of been having and was sure it might be it. But they all stopped maybe about half an hour after they started. Back to BH type tightenings again :(

Glad they at least managed to do a partial sweep longest, fingers crossed it gets things moving for you.

Hope those of you on your second or third manage to make it to your desired birthing places before they make an appearance.

Due date today... Can't quite believe it lol

Got lunch with the NCT group today, Midwife appointment and then my scan :) then possibly dinner out with my Mum after as DH is working late.

Happy due date apple - although your day sounds lovely so not sure you want it disturbed!

Not a murmur following sweep. She does feel very low now though and apparently I am 50% effaced and starting to get engaged so hopefully labour is on track if not imminent. Am not too impatient. Just a bit nervous about getting dd settled and getting to hospital. Really want labour to kick off during the day - then things will be easy - but know nighttime is more likely.

Thanks ladies :)

stretch and sweep done. 2-3cm dilated, she could have stretched to four, pocket of waters at the front of the head, ready to go:) all looking good! Proper show this time following the sweep. She could touch the head, cervix still slightly posterior.

blood pressure was high two out of three readings, third was borderline, will have it taken again in hospital when I go for the scan, if still high will have to be monitored. was 136/90 on the average reading, my bottom number is usually anywhere between 58 and 70.

Leanne, I didn't have to.ask.for the sweep she just offered it
