Love the thread name!!

Thanks Toni for the parenting club info, I'd had the same problem but all sorted now!

For all those ladies trialling cloth, have you given any thought to what you may use? I'm thinking of using pop-in nappies as when made up they are almost like an all in one/disposable which I thought may be good for if family change her and are not so familiar with cloth nappies. But I'm unsure whether to commit to all one type or try a few different ones.

Glad that those that have started antenatal classes are enjoying them and finding them useful. I start next week...making it all seem very close! Exciting! Smile

Hey folks!!! A new thread!

Another lasinoh fan here - i went through tubes of the stuff!!! Cocount oil - just doesn't give dame benefits. I went on hols without lasinoh. Ended up getting infection in cuts on nipple which led to absess in boob (we had big probz with latch for months)

Keep a good supply in folks.

Will be using cloth nappies again this time. Spent a fair bit last time in initial outlay but saved so much.
Will use disposable for first month or so til we are more settled into new life!!

I used pop-ins with DC. They were lovely on him but he 's a big lad and grew out of them after a year.

Planning to use them again on the twins though :-)

We used disposable with a cut out till the umbilical stump fell off then switched to reusable. Little lambs microfibre when he was small as they're super soft, and then bumgenius (very easy use) and tots bots (great designs.)

I must have been v lucky but barely used the lansinoh last time - ds wasn't too ferocious! Of course I always remember babies/pregnancies are like shares - past performance is no indication of future results...

I've got a range of newborn cloth in second hand. Some two parters, some all in ones, some bamboo muslins and wraps. I figure whatever I get on with that doesn't leak I'll invest in :) I've got about 20 nappies for £40! Super cheap!

I'm thinking about giving cloth nappies a go. After the first few weeks, DS was remarkably regular with his poos- once a week on a Thursday, we'd have a huge poosplosion. If new baby is similar, I think it might be worth using disposables on poo day, and reusables the rest of the time. Of course, new baby may be completely different...

We're also doing disposables til new year then cloth. I've got some second hand bum genius and treated myself to a brand new little bloom one from amazon. Little bloom are much cheaper than bum genius and seem roughly the same with good reviews too. I'm going to try and blag a load more cloth nappies from a neighbour too so basically beg, borrow and steal!!! My only concern is drying space as DH and I struggle sometimes as we don't have a tumble dryer.
I'm allergic to lanolin - any other good nipple creams available? I've bought a tube of boots stuff which is lanolin-free. My brain keeps thinking beeswax / burts bees type stuff might work?!?

Joining the new thread, love the title :).

Re nappies, planning on disposables at first then going to attempt cloth once we are more familiar with things. DH is not very keen on the sound of cloth for some reason as he thinks it will be a load of faff, but he will be back at work by then so will just need to get on with it when he gets home anyway!

Love the new thread title.

Have had another productive day (ie managed another online shop for the hospital bag).

It's going to be a very big bag at the rate!!

Rolling aboard too, glad I found you all again. 30+3 with 3rd and getting really bad acid reflux. Trying to enjoy last bits of pregnancy, as unlikely to do this again, but with around 8 weeks to go until c section, need some serious motivation. So, hospital bags, how far has everyone got? I haven't given it any thought. With my first I was probably packed by now. Have been v laid back with this one and now wondering exactly what I'll forget... Oops!

Hope all keeping well. Is there a fb group? I meant to ask this ages ago. My one from ds2 is amazing for support and handholding as well as v funny. Thanks.

Hmm, we had been intending to go with disposable nappies, but am now wondering about cloth. Sorry to be very ignorant, but when people say 'cloth' are they referring to cotton ones with a disposable insert or entirely cotton ones that you wash and reuse?

amy, the Burt's Bees stuff would probably do the trick but you'd have to wipe thoroughly before feeding as it sticks to your skin and the taste would probably linger. Mothercare do stuff called Nipple Balm which I think is lanolin free and you can feed through. There's also some stuff called Nipple Butter which is made by a company called Angel Baby which is lanolin free but not sure if you can feed through it or if it is for afterwards. I did scan the box briefly but can't remember, sorry!

Has anyone else had weird pins and needles feelings? My right buttock and thigh have had that horrible achy, prickly feeling you get before pins and needles on and off for several days now. Baby squashing something maybe? It's very uncomfortable, feels like there's not enough blood in my leg. Ouch!

Quick question Ladies,

Moat people have suggested using cheapie knickers after delivery as opposed to disposable ones, but what size do you buy?

I'm normally an 8-10 and am still this size as I'm all bump and nothing else and probably won't gain anymore. I want then to be large enough to be comfortable, but close enough to hold pads in place. So I buy the next size up or go for my regular size? I appreciate it might be a pie in the sky question - sorry Blush

Vicky - 20 nappies for £40, that's a brilliant bargain Smile

Twiglet - yes, I've been getting the pins and needles, always in my left thigh. I checked with the midwife and she said it was normal and that it was best not to stay in one position for too long. I tend to find it happens when I'm stood on the spot for a long time. The cloth nappies are fully washable aside from a liner which you dispose of which collects the nasties!

Workfree - I was also wondering how much bigger to go with the knickers too!

ladydolly · 03/09/2014 12:18

I'd warn off going too big, I normally wear a 12-14 and went up and bought a 16-18. They were huuuuuuge and now being used as cleaning cloths!! I don't think I could have kept them up even with a 7 month bump!!

amy83firsttimer · 03/09/2014 12:40

Cloth nappies = entirely cloth / bamboo material. Usually have a pocket to insert one or two inserts down the back then a washable waterproof outer or wrap. You can get disposal liners so poo stays off the inside of wrap and for easy flushing of solids whilst allowing wee to pass through wrap to absorbent inserts. These are pocket nappies I've described. They seem most popular. Look on amazon for 'little bloom'.

I used cloth nappies with DD, they were similar to pop-ins if that's not what they actually were. We got on well with them. I have no idea what happened to them. I think we may have lent them to a friend of my sister who I would not know how to contact re getting them back. Can't afford to buy again at the moment.
I have bought big pants for me from Primark. I would usually get size 8-10 in there so have gone for 12-14. I think that is what I did last time, but seem to have forgotten most useful information even though it was only 3yrs ago. Also bought a button-down-the-front nightie for labour or just after. Last time I never got round to getting changed in labour though, and gave birth in the top I had worn to go to hospital.
This week we are going pram shopping in the hope that a pram exists that is small enough to fit in the boot of our car.

Am also looking at re-usables after the first month or so (Have seen The Nappy Lady has an offer on a starter kit of miosolo's, which are all in ones without pockets/wraps or anything). I'd also like to use the reusable wipes but DH thinks it's a false economy so I need to do some research tonight to convince him. Need to research the TENs machine as well (homework for NCT class...)

Back is really achy today - am not sure if it's to do with the fact the pool was a little shallower at Aquanatal last night...

Glad the hint about Boots helped. It was annoying at the time but 'twas nice that the young chap on the other end gave me bonus points.

I've bought some reusable wipes ... got the 'seconds' pack from Cheeky wipes so if I remember correctly it worked out as 50 for 12.50. I am sure my opinion will change but for the past few years I have a real irrational hatred of baby wipes (and make up wipes etc...) I just always seem to notice them as rubbish on the pavement and roads etc and for some reason it particularly winds me up, more than say a drinks can or crisp packet!
Planning to try reusable nappies too, I have got 10 miosolos which I bought on an amazing deal in Mothercare (80 for a pack of 5 down to 20!), and some tots bots when they were on sale in Tesco, and paid with my clubcard, so essentially free. Won't be buying any more until after baby is born; we'll be doing disposables for the first couple of months at least. I have got some terry squares though (another mothercare bargain!) so might try those when he/she is tiny.

We're moving house on Friday!!! Can't wait! At last I can start buying bigger things, sorting the nursery, and thinking about my hospital bag. Poor DH is being totally amazing and shouldering everything relating to the move, obviously having to do the lions share of the packing, and he's having a crap time of it at work at the moment on top of it all. I don't know how he's doing it but I'm soooo grateful he is. With excellent timing I have my 28wk midwife appt at 10:30 on the morning of moving day, so I will be forced to take it easy for some of the morning :-) I'm glad we're not doing this any later on during the pregnancy...
