Thought I'd start a thread about it to see if it would work! Sign up here if you'd be interested.

(Copied from my post on the other thread) The idea could be that we could choose a colour each like one of us will be orange, another red, another yellow, and even non rainbow colours like hot pink, black, brown, and shades like lime green and bottle green, then all buy a bulk of whichever item - socks, bodysuits, babygrows, muslins, vests... just plain white, inexpensive, simple ones then post them out 1 to everyone who wants to take part. There's a finite number of colours so we'd have to work out numbers but say we have 15 who want to take part, we could split that into 3 groups of 5 so like 3 red ladies, 3 blue, 3 green, 3 yellow, 3 purple, then of those 3, 1 who has like 15 pairs of socks, 1 has 15 bodysuits, 1 has 15 vests... Then we post out 14 items to everyone else and we all end up with 15 multicoloured items. Would that work? Places like supermarkets and Primark have packs of 3 or 5 plain white items cheap, I think I saw 3 packs in Tesco for like 3. The more who sign up the more colours or items we could have, if we get enough then there could be 2 smaller groups instead of 1 large one so we're not buying and posting 50 items!!

I quite fancy doing long sleeve bodysuits in orange. Grin

I'm in! Can I please pick lime green! I will buy a machine dye and 15 baby vests (or whatever we choose - vests, babygros, muslins). I totally get the idea - we each dye a batch of our allocated colour and then send on 14, one to each of the others to make sure we end up with a rainbow set!

Cool.

If we can figure this out price wise then I'm in, can I have some kind of purple please? Not lilac but like a mid- deep purple :)

I tried some maths on the other thread, working on if we had 15 in on it I figured it would cost about £40, but fewer people would mean less cost, less items to buy, less to post out. I was just looking at a pack of Dylon for about £7 (according to Amazon) and a 7 pack of bodysuits for £8 in Tescos, 2nd class large letter postage, just as a rough guide.

Should we advertise on the main thread to get a few more in the gang so we can start dishing out colours and addresses?

RandomInternetStranger · 16/05/2014 16:31

I did say on the 4th thread, and the idea started on the 3rd... maybe we'll get to actually doing it on the 12th! Grin I'm ready when everyone else is! Grin

I went to primark the other day and they didn't have any muslins! They did have some 2 weeks before though!

I was thinking shall we start with maybe muslins and socks as these will last longer than a sleep suit?

And this would only cost about £25 to buy enough muslins, socks and to post them round, I was thinking we could take eachothers addresses and do our colour then post a pair to each person? Could probably post in an a5 sized envelope.

Yeah sounds good. With sizes what do you want to do, newborn? 0-3? 3-6? DD was 10lb 2oz and 3 weeks early and 23" long and straight into 3-6. A friend of mine went over by 2 weeks and had a 6 lb who was in newborn for a good month before moving up to 0-3.Grin

Actually bibs might be a better idea? If people are planning to use them? As they aren't age specific?

Report
RandomInternetStranger · 16/05/2014 17:35

I find muslins are far better than bibs as they cover a whole top, form a cowl neck to catch drops and are a handy wipe at the same time and can tuck under their chin whereas bibs are tiny, don't catch dribbles down their chin & neck, only catch spills that land in that small area, not ones which end up on their laps, plus you only really use bibs once they start solids at 6 months, before that you don't need one with bf'ing and need a muslin for their face with a bottle, it ends up on their cheeks rather than down their tops as they are lying down for bottles instead of sitting up. The little cowboy type bandana bibs are more use than the traditional bibs, but muslins are better than all of them. Grin

Socks are good, and being winter babies they'll need layers, vests, tshirts, jumpers, cardies snowsuits... and to warn you my friends who had sons all ended up pinching DD's old tights for the winter as they were warmer than just trouserr legs! Crossdressing from a young age! Grin

i would go for muslins too. Multi functional and last for ages!!

Tesco had some recently but very remiss of me no to check them out!

We used to go through socks at an unbelievable rate - always losing them along the way when baby wearing / in mei tais etc so they could be a good idea too!

I'd love to pick red too ??

Report
RandomInternetStranger · 26/05/2014 00:39

OK well sofar we have:

Random - orange
weeonion - lime green
Alita - purple
ladydolly - black/bottle green/navy
MummyV18 - red

Do you think that's enough or do you think we could do with a couple more - someone to do a yellow or a bright blue?

Are we doing a load of items so we have more than just one bit to dye so say vests/bodysuits, babygrows, muslins & socks or something? I would do sizes 0-3 or 3-6 rather than newborn or tiny baby so we know they'll fit at some point if not immediately!

I like the idea of vests & sleepsuits too but all should be price equivalent like everyone spends £10 on whatever items.

Had a look in Primani & Mothercare today. Primark had 3 packs of bodysuits (long of short sleeve) for 2.75 if I remember rightly, and packs of 3 pairs of socks for, I think it was, 1.50. I didn't see any muslins. Mothercare were far more expensive as usual (they always seem more expensive than other shops when I always assumed they were one of the cheaper places!) and Tesco online have them in packs of 7 for 8They have muslins 6 for 8 but I've seen cheaper - Asda currently have 4 for 3.50.

I'm in! Can I have violet?

Yay Posy on violet!

Right let's do this. Muslins, body suits (I vote with sleeves as it'll be winter), baby grows, socks? All or some of the above?

Smile

Definitely muslins. I will admit I'm not sure what the difference is between a body suit and a baby grow! Probably not socks though as I know lots of people don't use them on mini feet.
