Lovely shiny new thread hermya, well done! I will join pixie in ignoring the fact that potentially 15 pages into this, I will have given birth... surely not!!

Sorry I've been so quiet - it's been a horrible weekend as SIL went missing and then was found by police after having made a 4th attempt at taking her life. Thank god she's ok and is in hospital, but we've (obviously) all been a bit in shock.

Hope the rest of you are having a nice weekend, oh and welcome to the newbies!

Ooh this will be the thread where I finally give birth! Been for sweep today, not much more uncomfortable than a smear really. Had a little bit of spotting afterwards and now am waiting, midwife said something normally happens within 36-48 hours if it is going to. Apparently baby is in a really good position and I'm 1cm dilated now, so fingers crossed - otherwise I'm booked in for induction on Friday, so one way or another it looks like I'm having a baby this week Shock Grin

Sorry to hear about your SIL Worrisome, it must be a difficult time for you and your family, I hope she can get the help she needs.

Evening all,

Just marking my place. Still have no idea of EDD except somewhere around the first week of May but am off to see the doctor tomorrow and we'll see what he says...

Just waved my parents off after telling them that they are on the way to having their first grandchild and they were very happy which was GREAT. But very understanding of the early-days-don't-you-dare-tell-another-living-soul instruction! We'll have to see about whether they postpone their holiday though, as they have already paid for their flights. Oops! I am the worst daughter ever!

Thanks for the beautiful shiny new thread, Hermya - I very much hope that I'm still on it when we make a new one. Hmm More babies on the way though, and eeeeeeeeeeek for you, November! Grin

Worrisome, so sorry about your SIL Sad - I hope that the hospital can help her as much as possible.

November My word, are you excited?

Worrisome Didn't you have trouble with SIL before? I'm glad the police have found her, I hope she gets better soon. There really isn't much more I can say than that tbh.

girls, just a quick post to say that bbc northern ireland is screening a programme tom night called special deliveries at half ten on bbc one ni. It was filmed in the maternity unit that i am booked into and i don t know if watching it is a good idea or whether they will edit it to make good tv and will freak me out! If you are interested you might be able to pick it up on sky regional and virgin or else i player and if you do watch it would love your opinions as there are several birth options i need to consider. Good luck november hope things get moving soön for you! Will try and sneak on in work this week for a proper catch up with everyone, x

Evening all :)

Been AWOL this weekend as was on my friends hen weekend - totally not the easiest thing for me at the mo!! The whole weekend was littered with potential "give-the-game-away" situations.

Firstly I obviously didn't drink either night.
Secondly we went for a spa day and I couldn't go in the hot-tub,sauna or steam room. I also couldn't have the massage I was booked in for!!:(
And the final straw was going on a dungeon tour type thing and being told that pg people weren't allowed to go on the drop ride at the end!!

So anyone who hasn't sussed me by now is surely blind and/or stupid!

Anyway apart from that I feel crap, crap, crap!! Getting trapped wind a lot and feel nauseated most of the time too. Worried about how I'm going to manage back at work this week (I am also a nurse steg) as we're quite busy just now and not always getting appropriate breaks!!! Still haven't had my risk assessment done either - not happy! Angry
Halo did you mention seabands?? I'd be happy to give anything a go at the moment, ginger type things aren't working for me and I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't as far as eating goes. Feel sick if I'm not eating and now feel sick when I do eat as well :(
Anyway enough moanng it's all for a good cause!! Got my first midwife appt tomrrow afternoon so excited for that and to get date for my scan!!

Welcome to all the new mummies to be too :)

It's lovely to hear from you MrsWajs. Sorry to hear you're feeling crap though. It's not always easy to remember that the nausea/tiredness/wind is a good thing, but it all just means that the bean is settling in well :)

I have my first mw appt a week tomorrow and my first scan on the 20th. I have a hunch going on possible ovulation date that they'll put my date back 6 it 7 days which would put me at a very similar date to you, but we'll just have to wait and see.

My sickness is coming and going but tends to be worse in the evenings. DP was suggesting meals for the week and was met with a resounding no when he mentioned chicken thighs. I really don't think I could deal with that kind of thing at the moment. I haven't puked yet though and will be 10 weeks tomorrow so it hopefully won't get too much worse before it gets better.

We told people for the first time this weekend. I had to tell my boss (at my second job) as someone else is leaving and I'm a little worried that he's not going to replace her for some time and will expect me to still be there this time next year.

I also told my best friend and DP told two of his friends. We're holding out until the scan to tell our parents though. With a wedding on Saturday we may be sussed out, but hopefully I've come up with a convincing enough lie Grin.

Did anyone else panic about twins before the first scan? I have twin sisters and at the back of my mind I have this niggly worry about having more than one.

I reckon we have 37 frolicker grads so far (rough counting of list plus new bfps) and I read that one in 80 pregnancies is twins....

Been busy and not been on for a bit and we have lovely new thread!! :o Hope I haven't missed anyone out, and sorry for the marathon post:

Hermya hope the hypertension stays away for you, and how lovely of the nurses to make you some toast :) Sounds like may be your turn soon, and that the local staff are looking after you! Good on you for packing something to make you feel better after the birth, I'll have to remember that one when I pack mine! Thanks for starting this lovely new thread!

seablue how did you scan go? I started with slight SPD at around 16 weeks too and found swimming helped, just don't do a crawl as that will make it worse.

hobnob any news on whether LO has moved yet?

oneof8 aren't scans the best things??! congrats on the scan being alright, we didn't find out sex either and like you part of me wanted to know and DH had to hold me back from going back into the room to ask the sonographer!

MrsWajs hope the MS stays away for you! Don't wish for it as it's horrible!!

superpenguin glad the scan went ok, hope the ms goes soon.

novemberali How exciting!! Thinking of you , keeping fingers crossed and can't wait for the news!

Bunny :) at the lady in the supermarket!

ozzie congratulations! sorry to hear about the time you had with childbirth but little Thomas sounds more than worth it! :o Sorry to hear about your break down, but TBH it sounds like you're doing a fantastic job, I hope I cope even half as well as you are!

haloflo so pleased the scan was ok! It must be such a relief for you!! The scan is so clear and looking good! :) I was in maternity gear at 11 weeks so I don't think you're too early. If you've got a next clearance near you, they're quite good for maternity jeans. I got a pair for £4 and it's such good quality too!

lankylegs hi and so lovely of you to pop in and say hello!

fudge Thanks so much for updating us on slodge and congrats on reaching 500gms, nice to hear you're at home relaxing, still keeping fingers crossed for splodge!

luckyseven I know what you mean about the yoga, I've gone from boxing and circuits to yoga/pilates class and light swimming, very different and I can't believe how quickly I get tired too! Hope you had a nice holiday? Or is this another work trip?

kurly Congratulations!!! I know everyone says don't worry at this stage and it seems really bizzare to finally get a BFP when you've been waiting so long. Welcome to the thread and the symptoms are sounding positive, it never really gets real till you see the scan, so hope it gets booked in for you soon. I didn't tell either side of parents till after my booking scan. I think I personally needed it to be real for myself before sharing the news. I did have my scan before 12 weeks though( 10+6) so was slightly earlier than most. I bought the mumsnet book which was very down to earth, and my MW gave me an NHS book which had some information in it. Otherwise I've just asked questions as I've gone along and friends who've had children and MN have been invaluable! I had to ask colleagues the difference between babysuits and babygros the other day Blush but they were really helpful and not at all patronising :) I did have a bump band but don't find it particularly useful as I was aware that my trousers were undone and didn't quite feel comfortable with that, but it may just have been me!

steg am assuming you haven't told anyone yet? Before I told anyone, my job is similiar to yours and I kept munching on mints and dried fruit is also good to keep your sugar levels up. I found keeping a bottle of water mixed with squash or lucozade in a fridge where you can quickly access to swig at when you really need it helped me.

crazy congrats on the BFP!!

addie hope the scan goes ok x

worrisome sorry to hear about your SIL, hope she gets some help soon :(

Went for a nearly new sale today and got some whopping bargains!! I thoroughly recommend them to anyone, didn't expect to get much and just went for a nosy. My best bargain was a totbots bamboozle reusable nappy starter pack which retails at £180 on mothercare, never used for £40!!! Also got a baby monitor for £4, a annabel Karmel baby book for £3 and various bits and bobs, feeling really pleased with myself :o
Hope everyone has a good week!

saoralba I am worried about twins too, because I took clomid to get pregnant and the risk of multiple births is increased quite a lot by that. No idea how I would cope with twins, and I would look ridiculous with a twin-sized bump as I'm only 5ft and reasonably slim. My sister knows someone who had twins recently and both babies weighed more than 7lbs at birth!

I became an auntie for the first time yesterday, so today I am going present shopping which gives me an excuse to go to baby shops and look at everything. :)
Am also going to buy a few packs of mints to help me get through work. Am somehow working 6 days this week, then on nights again next week.

Hello all,
My growth scan was fine. The baby is about 7.5 pounds at the moment so will be about 9.5 pounds by her due date apparently. Large but not huge - me and my siblings were all more than 9 pounds and my DH is 6'4, and I am 5'11, so she was never going to be a tiny baby! The amount of amniotic fluid is generous but not excessive apparently, so nothing to worry about.
Well done Hermya for the new thread.
Good luck NovemberAli!!!

Congratulations on becoming an auntie Steg - you will get to make all your mistakes practice before your own LO comes along! Grin
I know how you feel about twins - my Nana had twins and it is supposed to skip a generation so I was a bit scared. Now I am nearly due with just the one, I don't honestly know how women physically cope with two babies inside them Shock Sorry, thats probably not making you feel any better!

Saor - you are right, we Frolickers are definitely due a twin bith! The list has been chopped a bit over the last few threads so we have probably had even more Graduates than 37.

Addie - glad to hear LO is cooking nicely and not too big. (Although 7.5 pounds sounds quite large to me as mine was 6 pounds at the same gestation!)

WH - sorry to hear about your SIL. That is the last thing you need to be worrying about right now Sad

Crazy - how are you feeling now? Has it sunk in yet? I found being around 4 weeks pg the hardest part - I was absolutely wishing my life away counting the days. It does get a bit easier as the weeks pass, I promise!

Fudge - how is Splodge doing this week? Hope you are still at home, in your own bed.

November - get eating that pineapple / curry/ raspberry leaf tea girl! Grin I'm so excited for you (and scared for myself!) Smile Smile

I'm 37+3 today. Every now and then I feel so terrified that I could throw up. But am practising my deep breathing and being a zen-mama!! [repeats hysterically "We are women, we are supposed to do this, our bodies are designed to do this..."]Grin

pixie 37+3 wow! I'm glad to hear you also felt a bit bonkers around 4 weeks...thanks for sharing Grin I have been a bit too excited and told probably more people than I should have, which now makes me think I'll pay for it and something will go wrong... but am trying to stay calm and think positively.

I have just enrolled on a yoga course too, the instructor said she encourages it in early pregnancy for relaxation so I thought I would give it a whirl. Of course I now think I am tempting fate.

Does this really last up until the scan? It's stressful!

addie that's a big baby already... well done for carrying it round, I am not sure I could. I can barely carry my handbag without whingeing!

steg congrats on becoming an auntie. Lots of hand me downs will be saved for you :)

Oh I know what I wanted to ask you all... is it true I can't use bubble bath? Blush

thank you! xx

Report
pixiestix · 06/09/2010 15:06

Can't use bubble bath? Confused Um... I haven't heard that pg women can't use bubble bath, and have been using it myself the whole way through, but someone will probably come along now and say "OMG, bubble bath is the devils work! I can't believe Pix didn't know that!" Grin
As for the bonkersness lasting up til the scan... I am probably not a good person to advise, as I am particularly bonkers, but yes, unfortunately for me it did last up to the scan, and on the day itself I was completely hyperventilating with fear Sad But the yoga is a very good idea!!!! Keep breathing!!!

Forgot to say - Kurly, I hope the docs goes well today, and they book you in for a good look at your LO asap Smile

Right, am just back from the doctor and feeling a bit weird. Apologies in advance for being me-me-me but just need to see if anyone understands any of this!

Firstly, he had the results of my ultrasound from when we were trying to work why I had such a long period last time. They showed polycystic ovaries - ok, have heard of those, not great but lots of people have them - and a "subendometrial cyst" over a cm long.

He seemed to think that yes, I was pregnant, despite the obvious odds given the previous results, but when I asked whether it could be a false positive he was like "yes, there are lots of things that can cause HCG as well as pregnancy but you probably don't have them". ARGH.

Have a booking-in appointment with the midwife in a fortnight and we'll see what happens but am feeling not very happy and don't want anything to go wrong. And the first site I got to when I googled the cyst-thing had a woman who'd had a miscarriage and then they found it. The worrying never stop, does it?

Report
WorrisomeHeart · 06/09/2010 18:16

hi guys

Thanks for your messages - SIL is doing ok physically, we just need her to get back onto an even keel mentally.

However, in other news... had my (belated) 34 week check today and hoorah the baby has turned!! He is now head down, although is back to back currently. I'm just so pleased he's the right way round and we're not facing a c-sec anymore (as long as he stays like that...) And it's my last week at work, thank goodness!

crazy I've not heard anything about the bubble bath thing either - and in fact have been using a pregnancy bubble bath for the last 8 months. I think as long as the bath isn't too hot you should be fine.

mrsw deffo go for the seabands, they are brilliant.

saor I had the same twin worries - mostly because I am a twin myself (and in more freaky coincidences, my twin sis is also pregnant!) When I had my booking in appt and the m/w was doing the form for the bloods she was about to tick the 'Singleton' pregnancy box and then said 'actually, lets just wait until after the scan to confirm that'.. Hmm fortunately there's only one in there - I don't know how my mum coped with us!

mumnerves well done on the bargains, very impressed!

steg congrats on becoming an auntie!!

addie fab news on the baby's size!

pixie wow 37 weeks - anytime from now huh? Grin

super exciting re the maternity clothes - what did you get?

Report
WorrisomeHeart · 06/09/2010 18:18

Sorry kurly crossed posts. As far as I know, the possibility of a 'false positive' is really really slim. Did he say anythign about doing another scan soon to see if there is a sac, or retesting your HCG levels to see if they rise? I'm sure all will be fine - the odds are with you on this one!

(and no, the worrying never goes away!!)

Report
SaorAlba · 06/09/2010 18:26

Kurly from what I have read, hcg levels fan either be elevated if you are pregnant or if you have certain types of serious disease which would be showing symptoms, so although your doctor is bring honest he's probably not being very helpful by worrying you like that.

I'm thinking positive thoughts for you :)

Super I'm sorry to hear you're still feeling rotten. I can't wait until everything's public and I can buy maternity clothes too!

WH wow, 34 weeks! Congratulations on the baby turning! Hope your last week at work goes quickly.

hello all

Alright if I join you lovely grads? I got the BFP that I thought would never happen last Friday evening. Think I am only 4 weeks today and so, like crazy, am feeling very very nervous. In fact, I am feeling much more nervous than excited and have spend the day convincing myself that something is going to go very wrong Blush. Ooh kurly just read your post - thats not a very helpful thing for the doc to say! Think he was being overly scientifically honest (i.e. doc saying well yes its possible for men to get pregnant - omitting to explain that it only happens if said man used to be a woman etc etc. Thats a crap example but hopefully you know what I mean!) Feel your worry - have fingers crossed for you.

Have been getting dry mouth alternated with lots of saliva (eeeewww), sore boobs and feeling queasy (like a mild hangover) in the later afternoon and evenings, even though its such early days.

Not been to docs yet or told anyone but DH. Plan is to tell parents on the weekend if all still ok by then, as I'd want them to know if something went wrong PLUS am going on hols with my parents next week (long story) and would be impossible to hide. Guess I should go and see GP this week? Feel a bit random popping in and saying, er, I have pee'd on 400 sticks and I think I'm pregnant.

How did you all survive the first nervous few weeks? Did you manage to enjoy it at all before 12 weeks? I really wanted to and am so torn between trying not t be excited and being terrified!

Report
Hobnob76 · 06/09/2010 19:22

Oooh shiny new thread Grin Hello all, I'm 37+1 today.

mumnerves thanks for asking after me. I think we're giving birth at the same hospital, I saw you'd commented on a thread about mat units in West Yorks.

Well my scan today showed that our little lady is still breech, which I already knew. The doctor and I discussed the possibility of an EVC but I wasn't keen on having it done, I don't know, my gut instinct said no and the doctor said that it was unlikely to work as my LO's bottom is well and truely wedged in my pelvis. She also said that the positioning of my LO might mean that it wouldn't be easy to perform an EVC, that and the fact that its less likely to work on a first time mum to be.

So I'm to be booked in for a C-Section in 2 weeks time, our baby will be delivered on either the 21st or the 23rd September! Shock Mentally I'm so not ready but physically I've had enough of the heartburn, cramps, carpal tunnel syndrome and not being able to get comfy in bed!

cherrycobbler Huge congrats on the BFP. I'll be honest with you, I really didn't enjoy the first weeks of pregnancy. I was terrified! I had bleeding early on and a scan at 6 wks, I had morning sickness from before I got my BFP to when I was 29 wks too.

I can truely say that I started enjoying my pregnancy from about wk 16, when I got a little more energy.
