well everyone Matthew Russell (after his dad) finally decided to makes his apperance on 7/6/05 at 7.30am weighing 7lb 11oz. (i think his lucky number should be 7) can't believe he's finally here, he is so perfect it seems to good to be true.

i went in on monday morning at 8am to be induced as he still hadn't decided to come by himself. they did an internal and said i was favourable and that the first passary should work.
put that in at 8.30 and contractions started at 1.30pm, coming every two minutes from then till he was born. coped ok just breathing through them and had a bath. had waters broken at 2.30pm and was 2cm dilated. was put on drip to strenghen contracts. started using gas and air at about 11pm having congrtactions 6 in every 10 mins. asked for epidural at 11.30pm and was all in and done by midnight. (was surprised it didn't hurt hardly at all) epidural worked a treat and went to sleep till 3.30am ad woke up feeling completely numb and was 8cm dilated. was then checked again at 5.30 and was fully dilated but was left for another hour as baby was facing wrong way. checked at 6.30 and baby's head was visable and facing correct way. started pushing and baby arrived at 7.30am. didn't have to have any stitches which am so pleased with, had some bruising and grazes done their but apart from that feeling fine now. midwives were surpried it only took an hour coz i couldn't feel what i was pushing but i was obvisously doing something right. baby came out crying and was place straight onto me and it was the most amazing experience ever.

Matthew is doing fine now, he was very mucusy for first few days but seems to be settling down. still bringing up alot of his feeds and not sure why but he still seems content in between feeds(im expressing now as breast feeding hurt too much as baby was tonge tied when born and wasn't latching correctly.)

CAN'T BELIEVE I FINALLY DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's good. Are you managing to feed him directly at the breast now? Are you getting help?

i am still expressing at the moment which is going really well, but my mw did advise me to keep trying him at the breast before every feed to encourage him. i haven't yet as im quite happy just expressing at the moment.

18mumtobe... do keep trying him at the breaast if you want to b/f. I did this and he took it at 10 days old... and was fine!

i have since reverted to expressing (due to thrush) and am sick and tired of it now! wish he'd go back on the boob!

18mumtobe congratulations !! Welcome to baby Matthew. Yep you are right, us May mums finally did it and just to think it was only 9 months ago when it all started

Would be better to get him back on the breast - less hassle for you in the longrun. No sterilising needed. Your milk can start to dwindle when you are expressing only. It can be done though but takes a lot more effort.
