ok this is long lol

alana was born at 11.29pm on friday 22nd of april and weighed 7lb 4oz.

heres the story.

as u know i was due to get started on friday however i started getting contractions on thursday morning. they were getting painful and were regular so called midwife and she told me to head up to the hospital. i arrived there at about 3pm and was in ARU till they decided just to send me to the ward. when i got to the ward i was still getting contractions but they slowed down a bit. the evening came and they decided to give me the gel to help things along i was getting pains all night but in the morning things had come to a stand still. i was due to get more gel at 10 am but the doc didnt arrive till 3pm by this time things had stopped totally. i got another dose of the gel and waited still nothing. at 7.30pm they put me on the monitor to trace bumps heartbeat and it dived twice suddenly. i pannicked a bit and so did the nurse who called for the doc and he said i was fine and he wouldnt come down. i was really scared and the nurse went over his head and had me sent to the labour ward at 8pm.

the consultant in the labour ward came and decided to break my waters which was such a relief. he saw there was marconium (sp) so decided to put me on the drip to speed things up. by 10.30 i was in agony and was screaming for an epidural but there was no 1 to do it so i asked them to give me morphine till i could get 1. they came at 11 with my drugs (yay) and i felt like i was gonna be sick and was retching which i was told i was actually trying to push. they told me i was only 2cm and that i had to stop and just breathe through it. i couldnt and when the doc came in to put a chip on her head 5 mins later she said oh were having a baby at which i replied "no really that is what i thought i was here for" i pushed and that was it she was born on the bed while every1 rushed about trying to get ready.

she is the most perfect wee angel ever got home from hospital today as had a few probs with me being dizzy and found she has a heart murmur but been told not to worry. at the mo shes getting put to sleep by daddy while mummy has a wee break.

Congratulations SS on your perfect wee angel. Gorgeous name. My ds1 had a heart murmur too. He has been monitered all his life and it has closed over now (he is 7) and he was discharged last year, so hopefully the same for you - not to be worried about!

Wow well done starshaker how did they not realise you were dilated?! I think the cervix should be on the OUTSIDE somewhere... CONGRATULATIONS!

Good Grief starshaker! Firstly, Congratulations!!!

I think I would have wanted to kick the doctor in the gonads if I had an experience like that! I get the feeling that some think that women in labour are really just mad.

I remember the retching bit for me too. I think that made them put their heads up and say "oh, oooh, more is happening here than we thought" as the m/w broke into the toilet where I had gone for a pee but had a show and retch instead.
