Delilah Rose was born in dramatic circumstances at 0523 on 6th June
Woke up at 0435 in the middle of a contraction, so I bit the duvet until it passed and then shuffled into the playroom to get the online contraction timer going. By 0445 I'd had three contractions, each lasting for nearly a minute so made my way back to the bedroom to wake DH.
DH went straight into panic mode, especially when I said 'Call the delivery ward to let them know we're coming - in fact, I think it might be a good idea to call an ambulance, just in case' (hospital is about half an hour away). The 999 operator was less than helpful, insisting that I MUST lie down on the floor to which I believe I replied 'I'm not fucking lying on that fucking floor'
At 0500 had a show - lots of blood. LOTS of blood!!!!! I shouted at DH who was saying the operator 'I've TOLD her to lie down, but she won't, she's a bloody woman, what do you expect?'
At 0515 waters popped like a balloon all over the bathroom floor.
At 0520 the paramedics arrived, ambling in with no medical kit - not even a bloody blanket! Shrieked at them 'The baby's bloody crowning!' and one of them raced back to the ambulance whilst the other attemtped to calm me by shouting 'DEEP BREATH! DEEP BREATH! CALM DOWN! YOU'RE NOT HELPING YOURSELF!' In response I bellowed into his face 'STOP FUCKING SHOUTING AT ME!'
So there I am, lying naked on the bathroom floor with no towels or cushions, DH standing in the bath behind me, paramedics at the business end, when I realise that this really is it and I need to give the most enormous push to get her out. As she emerged, I realised something was horribly wrong - no crying from her, and I could tell she wasn't moving. Nice Paramedic said 'Oh bollocks...GET THE PAED RESUSC KIT!'and started tugging frantically at her - she was blue, floppy, and the cord was wrapped at least twice around her neck. Finally, finally, Nice Paramedic said 'Good girl! Good girl!' and she gave the most enormous wail
A very exciting ambulance ride at 100mph followed, and on arrival at the hospital all was pronounced to be well, and now nine days later she's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen and the easiest baby I've ever known I think she has drama queen potential in her though...
