I've amazed myself and dh by having a wee boy, our 4th child, but first son!!
Waters broke 4.45am on Saturday, which was great timing, as it meant that my sister could come up from London for the weekend and look after the girlies. Not much in way of contractions during the day, but the hospital told me to come in in the evening so they could check me and bub out, and they started to pick up on my arrival there at 9.15pm. I was 3cm by 10pm. Begged for and got an epidural, and was desperate for them to get it up quickly, as I remembered from last time how fast I progressed once in established labour.
I had a brilliant midwife, who just let me get on with it, and trusted me to tell her how I was progressing rather than examine me. The epidural only worked down one side, and they just had time to top it up when I was ready to push, about 1.15am. Took about 20 minutes to get him out - I wasn't working as hard as I could, because I was expecting him to just fall out, as dd3 had done at her birth. He emerged at 1.36am.
I'd asked for them to let me see the sex of the baby, and could have sworn I heard dh saying it was another girl as I went to look, so was surprised to see what I saw! He weighed 7lb12oz - pretty good weight for 8 days early, and is really long.
No post-natal complications or even stitches required - I've been lucky there every time. He's very sweet and we're all besotted, especially his big sisters. Came home from the hospital last night, and bless him, he rewarded me by sleeping through for about 6 hours. Very much looking forward to Christmas now with my new baby boy!!
And still haven't named him...
