Does anyone struggle to announce their pregnancy?(8 Posts)
I've had 5 pregnancies, 4 children (1 set twins) and never once have I been excited to reveal the pregnancy! I dreaded the thought of having the attention and that I might've forgotten to tell someone important! Also it seems silly now but I dreaded it especially with our first pregnancy as it would mean telling my parents that I'd DTD with DH We'd been married a year already! Can't get my head around the 'importance' of big social media announcements though. I rarely post but do use SM and I find them quite cringey at times when they're so fake and staged. Ah well.
@fashu You’re definitely not alone 39.5 weeks and I still haven’t “announced” 🤷🏻♀️ It’s driven all my family mad! A few of them even responded “oh my gosh!! Who can we tell?! Can I put it on Facebook?!” before even saying congratulations which is just MENTAL to me 😳 and my friends are all big “social media announcers” so they think I’m weird but I don’t care 😂🤷🏻♀️
Told immediate family (parents and sister, and same on DHs side) at about 9 weeks purely because we were going into full lockdown and they were classing pregnancy as high risk so wanted them to know I was taking it very seriously! Told closest friends at about 22 weeks when lockdown in our area lifted and I could see them face to face again for a socially distanced walk or whatever. Apart from that, everyone else will find out when they see us with a pram or depending how I feel I might post on social media once baby is here safely 🤷🏻♀️ just do whatever feels right for you 😊
@grassgreenthisside yes I never announced my first wider than my close family and my best friends. My school friends and extended family found out a few days after he was born when I put his picture on my Instagram, some people even thought he was my cousin haha! One of my oldesr friends asked who the dad was, which was slightly insulting at first, but then I realised I never actually put anything up about getting married! Still, probably not the best question to ask since we had already been together 8 years!
@4stripes wow, glad to know I'm not the only one! Thinking back, I never actually announced my pregnancy in work, it was just eventually noticed. Only told my manager. Guessing people will find out when I'm going on leave this time since I now work from home! I always see my friends posting on facebook as soon as they find out I don't think I could ever do that? My mum says as soon as she found out about me she ran to her mums to tell her. Me and my mum are very close and I just want to tell her everything but I keep stopping myself. Such a strange feeling. I've been married for years, but even when I got engaged I avoided that for ages. My mum and dad knew because DH told them before he asked me and they were just waiting for me to tell them!
I know several people who did not announce the pregnancy and just announced the baby being born. I personally think that's a nicer way of doing it.
People you see when your obviously pregnant will see and then know but if you haven't seen these people while heavily pregnant then they probably don't need to know?
By normal times I mean 12 weeks like a lot of people do!
Yep, I'm 24 weeks and have literally only just announced it! No idea why, I just don't like fuss I suppose! I did the same In my last pregnancy, didn't tell anyone till about 18 weeks.
My other 3 pregnancy's however I actually did announce at normal times, so I don't know!
Anyway I wouldn't put pressure on announcing, do it when you're comfortable, there is no right or wrong.
I am expecting my baby no.2, but I can't bring myself to tell anyone! Only DH and midwives know.
We aren't telling my in laws until a lot later in the pregnancy. Without sounding crazy, my DH believes in black magic and I am weary of one family member in particular.
But I can't figure out how to tell my mum. With my first I lived far away and told her when I went on holiday to visit and just gave her my pregnancy report.
2nd pregnancy ended in miscarriage and I had to call in an emergency to get my son as I needed to be admitted
Now I just can't find the words to tell her. She will be over the moon, but i think i have issues with attention, I just want to blend into the background. I'm 9 weeks now and i feel bad because she would want to be experiencing everything with me and be there for me.
Does anyone else experience similar??
