Bereavement

I have the best dad in the world- his brother died last night and I cant begin to think what to say to my dad. :(

My dad really is so special, such a wonderful father. He phoned me this morning to tell me that his older brother had died (aged67) of a heart attack last night.

Ive never heard him sound so low before- he was trying to be brave talking to me but he had to pass the phone to my stepmum to finish the conversation.

My lovely, wonderful grandparents (nan 86 and grandad 90) are beside themselves with grief- nan said that she never ever thought that one of her sons would die before her.

God- what can you say to them- I feel utterly useless and devastated for their loss.

RIP Uncle Robert.

How very sad, emma

I have no helpful advice really but I suspect just being there will be as valuable, if not more so, to your Dad and GP's as words will be.

Thinking of you

Oh gosh, that is so sad, tiredemma. Your poor dad and your poor grandparents. Nothing you can say really, except let them know you'll always be there if they need you. Do they live near you? Could you take them round some food - save them cooking for a couple of days? That kind of thing can be very comforting when words seem a bit lame.

Do you live near enough to visit today? I would just hug him and take your lead from him. There are no words. Just a hug. He'll know you're there and how sad you are for him, from that.

Look after yourself.

Ive just phoned him and he said he was having a walk through the park, I asked if he wanted to come here for a cup of tea and he said he might do later. Sounded so sad

I have the day off uni today, I may go and visit granparents this afternoon before I get the boys from school.

So sad Emma

I am totally useless in situations like this so don't really have any advice.

That's a nice idea. Did Uncle Robert have any family of his own?

Yes- A wife who he had been married to for 47 years, 3 sons all married and 7 grandchildren.
Lovely family.

Poor family. All of you. Stay strong for dad, but remember not to forget about you too.
