Bereavement

DP has died. Don't know what to do.

My beloved DP died last night after routine surgery. A total shock. We have a 2 year old. We had plans for a second child, a bigger house and marriage and my future all evaporated in an instant. I don't know how to carry on alone. I'm in bits.

Oh darling, I’m so sorry. What a shock, the worst outcome imaginable. Don’t think about the future now if it hurts too much. Just go minute by minute and when you’re ready hour by hour.

Do you have the support of family and friends around you?

Oh I am so very sorry to read this. Do you have anyone with you? Take it one step at a time and try not to think ahead if you can. There have been other threads of a similar nature on here so hopefully someone who has walked this road will be along to offer practical advice and support. Sending hugs and sincere condolences. X

I have a bit of support but I just want dp! I'm struggling because my 2 year old doesn't get it and is getting quite distressed when I cry which I am struggling to stop doing.

Oh God I'm so sorry.

Is there anyone who could take your 2 year old out for a bit and be around you today?

I am so so sorry this has happened to you. Take it minute by minute and hour by hour. Have you managed to have something to eat and drink? Can you call on someone close to be with you? 💐

Is there anyone who could take your little one for a few hours while you have some time to feel your feelings without worrying about the impact on them?

Oh Llama I am so sorry to hear this. Can you get any friends and family to help you with your DC? You are in shock and need to be able to cry and try to process this. Any friend will drop anything and come to you - please just message and ask.

Yes my sister is here but I don't think she wants to leave me on my own so we're all here. It's hard when everyone is at work. I should be able to get more support for the weekend.

Have you asked anyone who is at work for help?

If you were my friend or family member I’d move heaven and earth to be able to leave work for the day and come to you.

I can't even think straight about what help to ask for to be honest, my head's all over the place. I'm struggling to talk about it at all in real life I just start sobbing as soon as I open my mouth. I have yet to tell most of my friends. Never in a million years did I think I'd be in this position.

Finding it hard to tell people as it makes it real. I saw his body at the hospital and I sat with it for ages, I couldn't bear to leave him.

I'm so sorry, what utter heartbreak xx

I know that one friend told a lot of other friends for me - that was incredibly helpful. My brother in law told my dh's parents.

The hospital will help you. Has your dp got family? Parents?
If you are finding it hard to speak, you could just text one or two close friends. Your sister might call a couple of people for you.

Report
ZealAndArdour · 24/09/2021 09:02

Would you prefer for your sister to tell your immediate circle of friends so that you don’t have to do it?
