Bereavement

Four weeks still no post mortem

Is anyone else having to wait a long time for a post mortem on a loved one? It feels like this is going on and on. No contact despite promises of updates. I know we are in the middle of a pandemic but the lack of communication has been appalling Sad

I’m so sorry @honourablemickey the wait times are now getting longer and longer where we are as well which is understandable in the circumstances but the lack of communication isn’t on. Would you like to contact your hospital PALs and see if they can find out more for you?

Hi @honourablemickey

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I work in bereavement for a hospital and unfortunately, with COVID and it being winter when we’re very busy anyway, it can be a few weeks before the examination is carried out. Do you know if your loved one is having a Coroner’s post mortem or a hospital consented post mortem? If it is a post mortem ordered by the Coroner, you will need to contact your Coroner’s office to find out what the hold up is. They should be able to tell you any information you need. If it is a hospital consented examination, you can contact the mortuary that is caring for your loved one and they will explain. In addition to that you can contact PALS to get in touch with the mortuary.

Again I’m so sorry for you loss. To wait is devastating Flowers
