Hi

(please be aware that theres some description in here that may be a bit yuck but i have to ask) my sis is on the pill, she has a 5 month old son, but shes crap at tking it (hence the 5 month old son) but she rang me yeaterday and said she had had some bleeding but was midway through pack so its unexpected.

I asked if shes missed any pills lately as it could be breakthrough blood but she insisted shes taken them all porperly this pack.

Anyway she rings today and said she woke up in a pool of blood this AM her sheets were covered.

She put a pad on and got on with the day, then she feels like she passed something.

she went to the loo (TMI coming up, sorry) and theres a huge clot.

she asked me to go look at it and i was expecting a bit of a clot like on your period.

But it was almost the size of my palm, it was thick on one side thin on the other - it had a white mass - noting recognisbale just white stuff, but kind of solid in it and it had an opening, like a pocket.

TBH it looked like a placenta - but i bought her a PG test and its negative.

She said all this morning she had AWFUL pains - like contractions.

It all points to a MC but surely if she only passed this morning it would show positive on a test??

I dont know what to think!

Um, I think your sister needs to speak to a doctor

I think your sister should go to a well woman clinic, a midwife or her GP. Whatever has actually happened is not an ordinary period, so she ought to bet herself checked over as, if she has had a MC they will need to be sure that there is nothing left in her womb, and if it's not an MC then they will need to find out what it is.

Thats what she said -- but from 5 months ago?

It truely was shocking.

Im just wondering if the negative pregnancy test holds any truth? I really cant see what else it could be ... but the neg test is making me wonder??

she must go to the doctors to get this checked, it could be a MC you are right, there could posssibly be a negative pg test as the HCG is only produced whilst there is a live foetus to support. I think someone suggested stuff left over from the baby and i tend to agree - was her placenta clean and healthy on delivery? That is a huge amount of blood to be losing so quickly, she should get herself along to the docs, she may just need a clean out (yuck sorry) but its important that there is no infection or one doesnt develop.

She had a complicated birth with haemmoraging (sp?)

Is she still losing lots of blood? if so how much? If its lots, take her TODAY

retained products would have given symptoms surely, fever, discharge ,bleeding, pain, uterus would not contract back down

she must, must see a doc

also, am saying this as nicely as possible, but if she is crap at taking the pill, and does not want more children at the moemnt, she might want to consider something like the coil or implant so she does not have to remember to take anything

poor girl, must be a worry

great, she should be seen sooner rather than later, you are a good sister x

My mum went to the GPs with the thing she passed (my sister just couldnt go) but they said shes OK now as the bleeding and pains have stopped since passing it so she doesnt need to be seen , but if she bleeds heavily again or gets anymore cramps to go straight to A&E.

They said the thing is 'tissue' not a blood clot, its been sent away for testing,

they said it may be left from her birthing her son 5 months ago but in all likelyness we think its a MC

We will know for sure in 14days, but thats what it looks like at the moment.

Its very difficult because mymum was trying to emphisise the fact it might not be - to stop my sister hurting - but my dad also mustnt find out - shes told him its afterbirth as he would go mad

very difficult day

kits, glad your sis went to the docs, its best to know these things. Men are a bit crap, probably felt a bit useless tbh.

Love to your sister

her DP needs a kick up the arse

why would your dad go mad ?

hope your sister is doing ok, she must be feeling terrible, poor girl

Report
kitsandbits · 20/09/2007 12:34

My dad would go mad because she lives at home with him - has one baby to her DP thats a knob head - shes got alapecia - shes stressed as hell - her DP treats her like crap - she had an awful pregnancy - complicated birth

Her DS was in the NICU for 2 weeks and the LAST thing she needed was another baby.

Shes been told time & time again to go on the implant but hasnt - and he would go MAD if he found out she was PG again

poor poor girl

can you have Big Sister word with her and get her to see sense, maybe take her with yuo to get the implant or coil..

surely she can see that this is not a good situation to be in

i know

we talk loads lulu - im going to get her to phone the FPC and get on the list - its a 2 month wait for the implant.

She was on the pill both times she got pg

We are pretty certain that it was a loss

bless her

was she taking the pill correctly though? I know it can and does fail, maybe if she is really super fertile, she could use condoms aswell in the meantime, whilst she waits for the implant.

Report
kitsandbits · 20/09/2007 12:44

she wasnt the first time - but shes not missed a pill for 3 months (since going back on the pill after her DS was born)

Funnily enough she told me they do use condoms aswell, which seems to be true as they had a night together last week and her DP asked myDP for one ... so im assuming its true as using condoms isnt a one off thing is it? I mean if they didnt usually bother theres no need to ask for one that night is there> so i believe that to be true.

So i think she s just very unlucky.
