hi, could someone give me some imfo or advice

i went for an scan on sat and they couldn't find a hb, so they said i'd lost it, still feel pg, and a test as just come back extreemly positive.

is it posible i am still pg, and the scan was wrong?

how many weeks were/are you? this happened to me, ring up your epu, they need to check for an ep.

Confused, sometimes it takes a long time for the hcg levels (the ones that turn a pregnancy test positive) to go down after a miscarriage. How many weeks are/were you? If it is very early then it is possible that they wouldn't pick up a heartbeat anyway, but I wouldn't have thought they would have told you you had lost the baby unless they were sure.

how awful for you to be in this situation

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 18:45:20

about 7 weeks, they picked up a hb at 6 weeks though

Do you have another scan booked? Sorry you're going through this.

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 18:47:58

it was 3 in the morning at a n e on a sun morning they where rushed off their feet, don't know if they checked properly. maybe just wishful thinking

tissy Fri 23-Feb-07 18:48:20

have you had any bleeding/ cramps?

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 18:54:22

i did thats why i went for the scan, stopped after a couple of hours though, still got all the pg symptoms, tired, sickness, headaches, sore breasts...

So, what is supposed to be happening next? Did they sya you should wait to miscarry naturally, having an ERPC, or having another scan?? Or did they think you'd already had a complete m/c when they scanned you? (sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to see what follow-up you are having, if any).

i don't know really! they told me to go home and rest for a few days and see my gp, but its hell to try and get in the surgery, i've been in a bit of a daze to be honest

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 19:26:47

they didn't say to go for a scan, i assume they meant to let it happen naturally

Miaou Fri 23-Feb-07 19:35:39

Confused, you need to be seen again by someone. I would suggest EPU but have no experience of this - you may need to go through your GP to get an appointment (?) - someone else can advise you on this.

But - sorry to be blunt - you are either still pregnant, or have a missed miscarriage, and either way you need support/advice and/or help at this point.

I think if you call your EPU they will be able to tell you if you can go direct to them or if you need to go through your GP.

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 19:38:47

whats a missed miscarriage?
are epau's open on sat?

Miaou Fri 23-Feb-07 19:42:55

A missed miscarriage is when there is no longer a heartbeat but you have not passed all the products - sorry to be so blunt!

I've c&p'd this from the bupa website: "Missed miscarriage describes a pregnancy that stopped growing some weeks ago, but there was no bleeding at that time. This type of miscarriage usually causes a small amount of dark-brown blood loss and the sudden end of normal pregnancy symptoms but there may be no symptoms at all, coming to light only at a routine scan. It is sometimes called a blighted ovum.
Treatment options

If a miscarriage is complete then you don't need any further treatment. For a missed miscarriage or when there is significant bleeding, treatment with medicines or surgery may be recommended to remove the remaining pregnancy tissue. Some women may prefer to let nature take its course, which is called expectant management."

ok thank you

ito epu opening hours, they vary (as someone who's spent too much time in a couple of them) - but might well say on the hospital website?

Confused from the other point of view, there was a thread not too long ago from someone who had gone for an early scan (I think it was around 6 weeks) and was told there was no heartbeat. They then had a scan done privately and everything was fine - it was purely that the private scan used better equipment than NHS

I'm not trying to get your hopes up but I think that you def need to arrange another scan.

Did they give you anymore info? did thay tell you what was or wasn't there or just that they couldn't find a heartbeat? I'd be really p'd off that they just told you that and sent you home with no more info.

gingernut Fri 23-Feb-07 20:00:35

Yes, I agree with the others - I think you need another scan to be sure.

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 21:09:37

thank you i will ring them in morning, like i say, they where very busy, and i was on my own and just wanted to get home, any idea what the other thread was called Zephrycat?

funnypeculiar Fri 23-Feb-07 21:13:27

let us know how you get on confused [smile}

zephyrcat Fri 23-Feb-07 21:17:11

I've been trying to think - I'll go off and do a search for you

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 21:18:31

thank you i have looked but can't find

and thank you i will let you know x

zephyrcat Fri 23-Feb-07 21:28:08

Ok this is the one I was originally thinking of. She was told there was no foetus - not just a heartbeat, but shows even moreso how the scans can differ.

confused2007 Fri 23-Feb-07 21:42:28

i have read it, thank you very much, given me hope.
