My darling DF suffered a tragic accident 4 hours after arriving. He suffered catastrophic , irreversible brain damage and will be taken off life support in a few days.
I am here with my children and we were due to fly back on Tuesday. I was going to ask consulate about getting help getting escort for children in flights home.
I cannot afford to pay for him to be flown home for burial. All the money is in Jim's account. That money is for my son but I'm getting pressure from his family to bring him back. Also they don't seem to do cremations here so that might not be an option.
Travel insurance won't pay as he jumped off a 3rd floor balcony,
I guess I'm asking for help advice and guidance, where do I start.
My heart is broken .

Insurance- you need to speak to soneone properly also someone at the embassy before making any decisions.

The Consulate will have staff available by phone for emergencies but I am sure they cannot proved escorts for your children. The airline probably would cover this, so get in touch with them for information on unaccompanied minors.

You do need to get in touch with the Consulate / Embassy though because - really sorry to be so horribly blunt in such a dreadful situation - his death needs to be registered by them.

Sorry for the dreadful circumstances you are in. Did you book through a tour operator, could a travel rep help you even if not from the same company? Or the hotel manager locate a consulate representative on your behalf on the mainland if needs be. Call the insurer again too and see if they will make arrangements and argue about costs later, are you all on the same policy?

No advice here really, but I am so sorry Insurers often try to weasel their way out of coughing up when something happens, but I would keep trying to pursue them.

My MIL died on the way back from holiday, having fallen ill before they left - plane made an emergency detour to try to save her, and FIL and BIL had to stay abroad for some time before she was brought back, but insurance did cover repatriation costs.

^ sugar we don't know the insurers are trying to 'weasel' their way out of paying. If what happened isn't covered then it isn't covered. Not matter how sad, that's the way it is.

Hi I'm very sorry for the situation you're in.

My first thought would be that the airline will act as escorts for your children, the consulate wouldn't normally send anyone.

So do you / your df have travel insurance? Repatriation should be covered. Did he jump or was it an accident - sorry to ask but that will affect the insurance.

I have worked in travel insurance and any accidents caused by balcony jumping, even if it's from one balcony to the one next door are excluded on most policies now.

His travel insurer emergency medical dept should be able to give advice on coming home etc, even if the costs aren't covered.
